The 2013 state meet UNDEFEATED 3A WRESTLERS
Weight-Wrestler (School, Year, Record)
195-Ricky Robertson (Sandburg, Sr., 44-0)

Wait, wait, wait.  We took a kid who was 44-0 at 195 in 2013 and tried to get him to be competitive at 174 in 2016 in D1 college wrestling?  I guess I've got to give mad props to Ricky for even functioning after such a cut.  I can't imagine trying to drop 20 pounds off my senior year HS weight and be stronger.  Seems... not possible.

First of all you don't know what his body fat percentage was in high school.
Secondly, you can wrestle "heavier" in high school than in college due to the concentration of talent that occurs in the college ranks.
I would like to reach through the screen and slap the next person who starts a thread about "global warming." Wraslfan
"Obama thinks we should all be on welfare."  BigG
"MN will eventually go the way of Greece." Wraslfan

It wasn't.
Merely having an opinion doesn't necessarily make it a good one

There is no doubt that Ricky cutting to 174 was an absolute failure.
His results were not a hypothetical example.  Visually, there was nothing in
his tank and his results confirmed it.   I seem to remember Lubeck looking
like that when he made the cut lower.  That said, Lantz should be fine at 125.

Everybody could see that, except the guy filling out the lineup.

Out of curiosity, can anyone name a recent Badger who made a significant cut and things turned out well? Some teams seem to get away with that, e.g., the Gophers, but it seems to always backfire on the Badgers. I'm holding my breath on Lantz. Making the weight is one thing...

Drop Step

Jens went down to 125 for University Nationals last June. He looked good sizes for 125, he also looked very strong and wrestled to AA. He would have been in the 3rd place match if he wouldn't of slipped in a puddle of sweat.  I Think he'll do very well at 125 this year.

It's really only noticeable when they change weights, but Herbst and Rutt pulled a lot of weight. Tyler Turner and Craig Henning flipped weights (if I remember correctly) and Tyler ended up AA'ing. It's a difficult science and different for everyone.

Herbst was a giant for his weight.  I fully agree with that.

Hearing we probably won't see Jens until after Thanksgiving due to a minor injury.

I like the line-up. Now go get some wins and move up into the ranking and seeding

billymurphy

That would really be something if Wisconsin could put two guys in the national finals this year,
and based on the recent results, it is not that far fetched.
