One simple point...

Coaches are hard to find.  If expectation becomes year round coaching then finding coaches will be even more difficult.

My opinion.
1) One wrestler has a mythical greatest HS coach in history and has year round contact with him and his teammates
vs.
2) Same HS coach for during the season but has different coach in offseason with different workout partners.

Wrestler #2 will always end up the better wrestler.  Kids need to be exposed to different coaches and practice partners.

Clarification New School-

I believe kids can get the extra work and mat time they desire without having their high school coaches in the mix.  If the club coaches are taking a $check from these kids, I guess I'd expect them to be at these post season events to coach.

In the end, just because a kid does/doesn't have their high school coach present during the offseason is not a deal breaker in their regular high season in my estimation or experience .  The rule is currently in place to keep coaches from being too involved - year round contact practically ,if this were to change ,opens the kid/coach up to some pitfalls .  You need a healthy balance.

Lastly, I guess we probably just agree to disagree on this subject.

I cannt fault an athlete for picking the college that is the right fit for them even if that includes leaving the state.

What is concerning is for the past 8 to 10 years Askren has had a problem with both head coaches. The current and former coach coach are completely different people the the same common theme is Askren didn't support either. Sure some can say that Askren is challenging the coaches and keeping every thing honest. It is just getting really old that everything in the state of Wisconsin wrestling has to revolve around what askren does or says. I love hearing about AWA kids doing well but all the other stuff is getting to out weigh the really good stuff! Just my 2 cents.

I get what some of you would like to see happen and I would too but I have zero hope that any of those guys would come to the W and the only way I see Bono leaving is if someone would chase after him and I don't see that happening as this has been a disaster.

Quote from: WrestlerSB80 on May 17, 2024, 11:42:42 PMI would take that lineup against the Badgers in folkstyle anytime and most likely none will be a badger. How is that not a huge problem?
Unless someone were to drop to 184 the Mirasolas, Hopke and Sinclair have only two college weight classes between them.

Wisconsins freestyle roster should be a favorite to win the national title. 7 Fargo finalists and 5 Fargo champs with several more all Americans-
Busler, Rugg, Gruenenfelder, Campbell, Peterson, Neirzel, Wolbert, Peters, Peach, Heiser, Koch, Herm, Millard, Stoffel, Sinclair, Mirasola, Mirasola, Hopke
