You do not take the mat in a Sectional final due to injury.  There is no wrestleback for second.  Do you take a loss in order to qualify for state?  (Regionals/Sectionals are not regular tournaments.  They are part of a tournament series.)

Correct, this is why we stepped on the mat started the match and injury defaulted.  If we would have not started the match and just injury defaulted or medical forfeited we would not have been able to place 2nd in the event there was no wrestleback.  The 3rd place wrestler would have automatically taken the spot at the State Tournament as a replacement.  This is because Regionals, Sectionals and State are a tournament series and are considered one big tournament.  Because there was a wrestleback we medical defaulted because he could not compete in the match, which in the end gave the match to the same 3rd place wrestler.  If there was no wrestleback, that would have given our wrestler a chance to get healthy and possibly compete at the State tournament.

This happened in our regional final at 285. Match started, 2 sec. in the whistle blows and kid injury defaults to our kid.

I have a question regarding an Injury Default.  Our guy got hurt in semi's but won the match.  Couldn't wrestle the finals.  Injury Defaulted the match.  If he didn't step on the mat for that match does it count as a loss?  I've tried to look it up but no luck.  Thanks

Yes cuz it's either a win or a loss and that's straight from the bylaws.
