There's been a couple new additions to next year's roster since the forum went down last week.  Below is what I believe the Badger current roster now looks like going into next season (assuming the current Badgers in the portal end up leaving, the HS recruits end up enrolling and Rosenfeld comes back for his final season of eligibility):

125: Alan Koehler-JR, Tyson Waughtel-FR
133: Devin Bobzien-FR, Peter Tomazevic-FR
141: Carson Exford-SO, Simon Kruse-JR, Frank Nitti-FR (RS)
149: Royce Nilo-JR, Elliott Biba-SO, Collin McDowell-FR
157: Cody Goebel-SR, Lane Robinson-JR
165: Matt Jens-SO, Ty Imhoff-FR
174: Lucas Condon-JR, David Mitrovich-JR
184: Clayton Whiting-SR, Caleb Dennee-FR, David Malin-SO
197: Wyatt Ingham-SO, Eli Leonard-FR (RS), Connor Diemel FR (RS)
285: Braxton Amos-SR, Gannon Rosenfeld-SR, Hunter Vander Heiden-FR, Cael Leisgang-FR (RS)

Why is it odd?

It is Maryland wrestling which just does not jump out to me as an upgrade from the Badgers.

They had an AA this year.  Badgers didn't. Two years ago they beat us. And not for nothing but maybe he just wanted out of Wisconsin no matter where he ended up.

Better fit?
More scholarship money?
Better fit with coaches?
More partners in the room?
New start?
Academic change of major?

Or something we dont know. Unless he comes on here and says we can only speculate why a maybe lateral move. Just looking at the current roster and Zan and Skebba leaving, doesnt have alot of partners. Not sure if Barrnet is in every day also.

I wish him the best and the Badgers now have Koelher!

I hope Rivera does well also, but it's an odd landing spot.

Maybe that's plan B. Maybe the first place he thought he was going didn't pan out.
As long as we are keeping score, I've got something to prove

Bonofried

What is odd is people coming on here dumping on a kid's decision as "plan b" and "odd" decision instead of focusing on the fact that one of the Badgers best wrestlers the past 3 years has decided Maryland is a better fit for his final year vs. the team he's given his all to for 4 years.  Nicolar at his last HS state championship grabbed a UW shirt and waved it to the crowd he was so proud to go there and just 4 years later Bono has turned the Badgers into a step DOWN from Maryland...Maryland!

What would you all have said if 5 years ago I got on this forum and stated that in few years one of the State's best homegrown talents would leave UW for Maryland?

Maryland has 6 kids listed at 125/133, UW had 3 before Koehler signed.
Maryland has a somewhat functioning RTC with real, active donations and athletes.
Maryland has a great light weight coach in Pitt Grad Cole Mathews.
Alot can change in 9 months, but wrestlestat has Maryland beating UW in a dual (and Nicolar beating Koehler).
Maryland and also had 6 National Qualifiers and 1 AA last year, and a better recruiting class and off season pickups.

Whats odd is since Bono arrived, Maryland has become a better wrestling program then UW and people blame $, the kids, academics, blah, blah, blah and not the leadership.

Honestly 5 years ago I certainly would bot have raised an eyebrow at kids leaving the state because they were already doing it from both the Badgers program and high schools around the state.

Nothing new here to hash over. I wish the ones that are still here the best!
