The Purdue/UW dual was the perfect example of what UW wrestling has become.  You gotta love the hustle, attitude, and effort (HEW) that they put in on the mat, but HEW only gets you so far and this is all that Bono has to impress on these young men and it isn't even close to enough to be a successful team.

-Nicolar threw all he had in regards to chin/Lat whips, but it wasn't even close, just to get majored.
-Greyson Clark showed that every team has HEW by spending 1 minute in double arms bars and not giving up a point. Then coming back for an easy win.
-We have sunk so low that Purdue can rest a stud (Blaze) against Mechler knowing that they are going to win the dual.
-Cale Anderson is amazing example of effort.   Guy gives 100% and then some.  But his match is a microcosm of the whole team.  Purdue (again, PURDUE!!!) is anticipating and 1 step ahead and WI is reacting constantly to what is given to them.
-Lucas Condon again showed great HEW, just to get taken down in OT by the same move that Purdue used 2x in the match.
-Wyatt Ingram showed great promise against a ranked guy in the loss.  But point to me where we Bono/Reader has shown that can get this in state freshman to the next level the next few years.
-HWT ending in bear hug pin to end it shows where UW is at as a team.
-Majority of Purdue line up is in state, Indiana, wrestlers.  They clearly know how to keep their in state talent staying home.  Even with another D1 team in state, and a couple great D2/D3 schools as well.

These wrestlers are putting all they can out there, and Bono/Reader is absolutely failing them.  For the love of God, WI just lost to PURDUE 33-7...Purdue

Sorry to digress from asdf's intent to lament the state of Badger wrestling (but I am sure the theme will be quickly pulled back into sharp perspective) but how does "... hustle, attitude, and effort..." come out to be "HEW"? I had always thought that HEW was the acronym for "had enough wrestling." Meaning that a wrestler had lost the required deep desire to continue to wrestle.
Merely having an opinion doesn't necessarily make it a good one

I had the same thought. HEW used to mean had enough wrestling.  Not sure when it changed.
