Quote from: afnjms on November 25, 2024, 10:06:51 AMI heard the 8th team will be a wildcard place and determined by some sort of criteria similar to how they determine state seeds.   Sounds like a good change and adds some excitement to the team event.

Correct.  The 8th team at Team State will be the highest ranked team, per Trackwrestling, from all the 2nd place teams at Team Sectionals.  This eliminates the situation of two stud teams being in the same Sectionals with one of those teams missing out on making it to Team State.

There is a lot of truth to the scenario when two or three sectionals have multiple top ranked teams. I think i missed reading when these sectionals are created.

Quote from: Gutwrench on November 18, 2024, 10:11:58 AMI think the thought process was that planning and starting now with 7 sectionals and 14 wrestler brackets allows for future growth without completely blowing up the system if more teams are added.

Dumbest thing inhave ever heard!

Every sport in the state uses a multiply of 2 in the state. Football the state is divided into 4 parts, WWF has the state divided into 8 regionals and I could on and on.

So with 7 sectionals then we are going to get 7 teams to state and now what, best team gets a bye?

Folks wresrling isn't going to grow and unless we make each division even in numbers or as close as possible then all is a mute point!

Whether you like minnesota or not they have a better grasp on how to do state series in all sports. They longer we drag our feet the longer it is going to hurt the kids that are involved!
You  don't know the plan. Reach out to your area rep and you will see.

While it is always wise council to take your thoughts, questions, and concerns to your district rep, in this particular instance, that would not be the best way to go.

The leadership in the WWCA has moved in a slightly different direction over the past two years, utilizing the entire membership more so than just the executive committee. There is a lot of brains, talent, and manpower that can be harnessed from the entire membership.

In this particular instance, sometime ago, the WWCA asked the entire statewide membership who would be interested in joining a committee to look into potential change to the state tournament series. An amazing committee of 14 members arose from that which only included four people from the WWCA executive staff.

Those 14 members are from all 4 corners of the state, all three divisions, both head and assistant coaches, administrators (such as Athletic Directors), and was very diverse age-wise.    Although not on the committee, Mel Dow was instrumental in answering our questions along the way.

The plan is that soon, the proposal will be sent out to the entire state who was not able to attend the two different sessions at the state convention.    The second part of the plan is that we welcome feedback because this is not a finished product. We may make changes to the proposal and it is even on the table that consensus might tell us that status quo is the best way to go. That would not mean this proposal was in vain.

Ultimately, the goal is to have a product for the WIAA Coaches Advisory Committee to bring this forward on April 9th (this is not the WWCA).
