Wouldn't you?

I agree with you but if the Nadgers are already cutting down scholarships do you think the Badgers really want at least 1.5 of the 5 scholarships resthieting and not have those scholarships for kids that are ready to go. Sorry sounds bad for the athletes but it is a business model now and if you cannt go, next athlete up.and say good by to any money/scholarship you have.
Why do you say they have 5 scholarships now?  They have always had 9.9 scholarships under Bono, to my knowledge.  Bono is just such a bad recruiter it feels like Badgers got only 5 or less.

The UW is cutting wrestling scholarships to 5 for next year. The new rules that are coming down are going to effect the Olympic sports incredibly. Look at Campbell they are basically eliminating scholarships for wrestling next year and many schools in non revenue sport will be dramatically reducing scholarships available to thier programs.

Sure they are allowing programs like wrestling to go to 30 scholarships outside a couple many will be reducing from the 9.9 they had.

This isn't a Bono issue at all. Outside Bono control. This is a bigger issue that doesn't look good for wrestling and several other sports.

Source?  I think it was brought up here as a rumor but haven't seen any evidence of it happening and you can't legally cut scholarships that have been accepted as long as they are on the team.  I believe Bono is making somewhere between 250K and 300K per year.  If Athletic Department wants to save money on the program, it just makes zero sense to pay that kind of money to someone who produced a squad that only won 3 matches against Ohio U.  Those extensions were stupid moves by the AD and how does he still have a job?  And whoever hired Bono over both Askren and Damion Hahn, how does he still have a job?

Source, NCAA. I guess if you haven't read about the lawsuits and the college landscape is changing is on you not me.

The new rules have increased basically every sports scholarships which sounds good on the surface. It also has has basically turned each sports program into thier own separate business. At wisconsin the football team basically shared 70% of thier revenue with other sports that are non revenue sports. Now under the new rules the football team keeps about the same as they have share.

So in D1, teams like Wisconsin are not making money so thier scholarships can increase to 30 but more than likely are going to reduce in number like 5 or zero. It is the sad fact.

A school can take your scholarship at any time they want. Every read one?

Yes the UW paid Bono and other coaches a pike of money for non revenue sports but the football team was sharing money so they could pay that. Now that each sport is thier own business then.......

LoL, in other words you have no specific source, just conjecture. I just think Bono tries to outbid other schools for middling talent and then post "Great Day...." I really wish the scholarship money would be released publicly.  And I disagree that scholarship money can be taken away for no reason.  I had this argument with another poster a few years ago and I won that argument after the other poster conceded I was right.  You can search for this thread if you want to be enlightened.

My source you asked? Google NCAA rule changes for 2025. I clearly stated the NCAA. It will talk about increased scholarship for all sports. Wresrling can have a roster size of 30 max. So if you are over 30 kids on a team you will have to cut someone on scholarship.

Any scholarship can be taken away at any time with behavior issues and grade issues. What the behavior and grade thresholds are, would be any ones guess. Losing a scholarship isn't that uncommon either.

While you are at googling the NCAA rule changes for 2025, look up the scholarship rules also.

Not going back to try and find some mythical argument you won. These new rules are going to change the landscape of olympic sports in college more than likely starting this year.

Try the NCSA sight that will break down the increase of scholarships per sports. I believe that sight was tossed around months ago. It explains the break down of increase of scholarships and some sports decrease of size.

What it sounds like is some schools are going to increase scholarship size if they have the finicial means to do so. Others will be decreasing scholarship sizes due to scholarships will go to big revune sports that can afford them.

Within the 3 lawsuits that were settle becomes NIL money payouts, payback and that should be easy to find.

I guess if you are not convinced there is nothing I can do for you. Just watch the season as normal and then next at this time we can have the same discussion about reducing scholarships if the Badgers have or have not. Does that sou d fair?
If life is tough,,,,wear a helmet

littleguy301

Flowrestling has articles on the increase of scholarship for wrestling. How NIL is kind of going to work. How wrestling is a non revenue sport outside the big schools. Iowa, PSU, OSU and Michagan etc.

No One really knows how this is going to effect the Olympic sports at the college level but some schools are already making adjustments this year. I hear UW is one of them that are starting to adjust for next year.

Also the main revenue sports like football and basketball don't have to share the revenue on a % like they did before. I cannt find anything for you to read on that. I am sure it isnthe fall out ofnthe 3 different lawsuits that were against the NCAA and the power 5 conferences.

My source of revenue sharing is coming from word of mouth from college coaches and some from parents of recruits.
If life is tough,,,,wear a helmet

littleguy301

NCSA and NCSASPORTS have information about your scholarship and how most schools are navigating them.

Scholarships are basically one year contract and every year they are up for renewal. Coaches will have to make the decision to renew or non renew them. If you are not meeting the requirement of academics or legally they can be taken away at any point of the year.

Sorry I tried to copy/paste and failed miserably at it ;D

So, it sounds like Wisconsin still has 9.9 scholarships.  Who knows if anything will change with scholarship money in coming years (maybe it will, maybe it won't), but there is nothing posted on this board that definitively addresses this.  If Wisconsin thinks they need to trim expenses on wrestling program, they might want to take a look at Bono's fat salary and private jet expenses.  But all the other schools have to adapt to a changing NCAA landscape too, so it shouldn't have a big impact on Badger wrestling competitiveness.  By the way, I expect most if not all of the Badger wrestlers to keep their scholarships and UW can't do anything about it until they graduate.

Houndhead

If Zargo and Amos redshirt, I doubt we ever see them wrestle for UW again. Just the way it is in college sports these days.
The changing landscape of college sports is not Bono's fault. The dismal state of the UW wrestling program is Bono's fault.

Kind of a cool note.  Wisconsin has 12 four-time state champions competing in college.  Did I miss anyone?

Keegan O'Toole - Mizzou
Matty Bianchi - Little Rock
Clayton Whiting - Minnesota
Tanner Gerber - LAX
Kole Marko - Minnesota State
Greyson Clark - Purdue
Rhett Koenig - Minnesota
Braeden Scoles - Illinois
Brayden Sonnentag - Minnesota State
Koy Hopke - Minnesota
Connor Mirasola - Penn State
Dawson Johnson - Minnesota
