Bad news for non revenue sports unless they have an amazing endowment and boosters.

I would imagine that the first sports facing the consequences of "tough choices" (1) Will be those that produce little revenue, or operate at a loss. (2) Do not generate a large home crowd. (3) Do not have a rabid, supportive following relative to other sports.  (4) Do not produce winning/successful seasons.  Take that however you will.

Using uwbadgers.com as my source, here are the women's and men's sports:
Women
Basketball
Cross Country
Golf
Hockey
Rowing
Softball
Soccer
Swimming/Diving
Tennis
Track
Volleyball

Mens
Basketball
Cross Country
Football
Golf
Hockey
Rowing
Soccer
Swimming/Diving
Tennis
Track
Wrestling

Based on No one's criteria, which sports need to be looking over their shoulder do you think?

The sports may not necessarily disappear. They could just become club sports. With that said, even the sports that DO stay on board won't necessarily be able to give scholarships to all OR any athletes. Campbell is a great example of that. We have been talking about this for almost a year now on the podcast.

Athletes will essentially be paid as employees of the school. Anything above and beyond that, approved NIL or any other payments are like a sign on bonus with a company. Also, National Letter Of Intent signing days have been eliminated as well....

At least he can't cut baseball.

I see very few sports outside of football, basketball, hockey, and womens volleyball surviving. My first reaction gut feeling is sports like golf, tennis, rowing(at least mens)will be the first to be hit hard. Followed quickly by swimming/diving and wrestling. I'd say the cross country/track programs but they've had lots of national success so they may get a bit more support, but in the end they'll probably have the same fate. The NCAA system is broke and it sucks.

Is golf's revenue tied to U ridge? I doubt UW will cut golf with that beauty in their portfolio
You're killing me Smalls!!!

According to the course webpage, University Ridge has hosted the following events. In both golf and XC.

Competitive Events Hosted
Since the opening of University Ridge, numerous events have been hosted:

2016-2023 American Family Championship (PGA TOUR Champions)
2018 NCAA Cross Country National Championship
2018 Women's NCAA Golf Regional
2015 Wisconsin State Open
2010 Women's Big Ten Conference Championship
2005 Men's Big Ten Conference Championship
2000 Women's Big Ten Conference Championship
1998 NCAA Division 1 Women's Championship
1995 Men's Big Ten Conference Championship
1994-Present WIAA Boys and Girls State Tournament
1993 Western Junior Open

I would imagine the course is a revenue generator and by extension so are the sports associated with it. The course is also public meaning that it generates revenue daily from users and customers. One would think that these programs are on safer grounds than others.

All male non-revenue sports will have scholarships reduced.  Track is going to suffer and be on the chopping block as they no longer have an indoor training facility.  I dont see them building them one now anytime soon.
Of Course, this is only my opinion and no one elses!

That is an excellent point. I have not paid that close of attention. Is a new track facility not part of the plan for the new football complex?

Handles II

An actual indoor track/training facility is not part of the plan for the new football training center. There will be some track lanes going around the balcony, but that won't be able to accommodate training for the entire men's and women's teams, much less allow for training for the field events, or be able to host anything. With indoor track season being a pretty big deal, I'm afraid that UW-Track and Field will be ending very soon. A real shame.
