I know there is a post for interesting high school results, but the girls should have their own topic.

I'll start with with these:

Bi-State:
Top three teams:
- Holmen 143.0
- South St. Paul, MN 114.5
- Badger 100.5

Badger had two in the finals, but Holmen had too much depth with 8 place winners scoring points. Badger's 152 also weighed in too light for the weight class so she was not in the tournament.

There is a dual scheduled between the two on February 2nd.

Big matches:
- Ava Peters, Pulaski (state 3rd, Fargo AA) over Ava Gardner, Marshfield (state 3rd) 4-0
- Amelia Adams, La Crosse Logan/Central over Natalie Klavetter (state 3rd) 10-1
- Amelia Adams over Kylee Kurszewski (state 6th) by fall in 5:01
- Amelia was a state qualifier last year and has made a huge jump since last season. She was my vote for outstanding wrestler of the tournament. She'll be near the top of the podium at state.
- Erika Sleznikow, Marshfield over Dealya Collins (state 3rd) Mineral Point by fall in 4:47
- Erika Sleznikow, Marshfield over Avery Losiewicz, Medford by fall in 2:39
- Erika looks like a state- title contender as a freshman..
- 126 overall was loaded - The number one seed and MN state runner-up placed 7th.
- Nobody will touch Carley Ceshker at 138 as she tech falls state 3rd place Shelly Bullman 18-2
- Harlow Skenandore, Pulaski freshman, dominates at 145, including 11-0 over state 4th placer Hailey Veeser.
- Renezmae Rhoades, Bayport freshman wins 152 easily.
- Rachel Schauer looks like a state-title favorite at 165.
- At 185, Badger state champ Ella Creighton falls in the finals to North Crawford/Seneca's Adrianna Logue.

Duals:
- Holmen over Eau Claire North 54-18
- Holmen over Nekoosa 45-21
- I'm very impressed with what Nekoosa is building. They fill all 12 weight classes and have a solid team.

- Holmen and Muskego will compete at The Clash national duals next week.
- Holmen has Apple Valley (#1 MN, 18th nationally) on day one. It will be interesting to see how the best team in Wisconsin does against the best team in Minnesota!

Midlands:
- Shout out to our three high schoolers who were invited to Midlands!
- Riley Hanrahan went 1-2
- Taylor Whiting placed 4th
- Brooke Huffman placed 4th

Hey, thanks for providing us with interesting results for the girls... we love to see it.

Any talk on when an inaugural girls team state series may take place?

Yes, the WIAA wants the state to reach certain numbers of girls teams that have full or close to full line ups. We're probably a few years a way from that still.

#6
The biggest girl's tournament of the weekend was obviously the Challenge Series.

Top team scores:

1 Holmen   120.0
2 Mukwonago   101.5
3 Wausau West   89.0
4 Menasha   84.0
5 Badger        65.0

Holmen continues their run as the #1 team in the state and placed 8 wrestlers. Mukwonago had two finalists and four total place winners. West had a champ and four place winners. Menasha had a champ and place winner. Badger was fifth without Carley Ceshker.

Interesting individual results:
#100
- Ava Gardner, Marshfield, dropped to 100 since Bi-State and dominated the bracket.
- HM Aini Anderson, Holmen, pinned #2 Katherine Cook in the quarters.
#107
- Returning state champ Taylor Whiting, Lena, beats returning state runner-up Iszy Sonnentag, Cadott, 16-2 in the finals
#114
- Savannah Danielson wins a close one 2-1 in the finals over Mukwonago's Cailyn Whittier.
#120
- This might have been the deepest weight. Dealya Collins (Mineral Point, #3 126) takes out Emjay Neumann (Manitowoc Lincoln, #1 120) in the finals. The first period was crazy and Dealya was up 7-5 going into the second before getting a reversal and pin.
#126
- Madi Peach (Milton, #1 126) pinned her way through the bracket. Erika Sleznikow, Marshfield, was an interesting non competitor. Hopefully she is not out for long.
#132
- Lillie Banks (Menasha, #1 132) was the champ here.
#138
- Macki Kaz (Gale-Ett.-Tr./M, #4 138) continues an undefeated season and pinned her way through, including a pin over state finalist Hailey Berg (Bonduel, #6 126).
#145
- The final might have been the best match of the tournament. Sydney Andrews (Turner, #4 145) pinned Emersyn Miller (Poynette, #3 145) in double OT. This is the second time these two wrestled to OT this year.
#152
- Two-time returning state champion Hailie Krueger (New London, #1) beat Kara Kuge (Lomira, #3) 3-2 in double OT
#165
- Sophia Bassino (Sun Prairie East, #4) wins the bracket with 3 techs and two pins. She stays undefeated and looks like a contender against Cyriana Reinwald (Horicon, 2x state champ, #1) and Rachel Schauer (Fennimore, #2) at state.
#185
- Brooke Huffman (Wittenberg-Birn, #1) won the bracket easily, including pinning the defending state champ Ella Creighton (Badger, #3). Brooke looks like of the best pound-for-pound wrestlers in the state.
#285
- Defending state champion, Madison Burns (Ashland, #1), did not have a match go longer than 27s.

Upcoming tournaments:
1/26 - Shawano Girls' Wrestling Invitational
1/27 - Stark Invite, Shiocton Girls Wrestling Tournament, Whitetail Shootout, Lady Cougars Invite, Marshlady Invite, Clinton Girls Invite
2/2 - Holmen vs. Coulee area teams. (Holmen was able to put together a meet against a few teams after Badger decided not to come anymore. It won't be an official dual meet, but it will be structured to look like one).
2/3 - Green Bay Preble JV/Girls Tournament, Husky Girls Wrestling Challenge
2/5 - Holmen Girls's Scramble
2/8 - Holmen varsity reserve vs. Kickapoo Dual

Updated national team rankings are out. Holmen is now HM. https://nwhof.org/news/january-national-girls-high-school-team-ranking-released?fbclid=IwAR183I1i457e4a8bAPzk4HDM9dLuouqT6LUp544bR8M0wRdKIc9-d8ArK8I

Let's get some discussion on girl's state!

Grappler posted new girl's rankings: https://www.wisconsingrappler.com/girls-rankings-detail

Interesting results from sectionals:
- At 100 Holmen's #6 Aini Anderson beat #7 Margaret Barrett from Sauk Prairie in the finals. Barrett won 8-0 at the Challenge Series. That match was crazy with Aini pulling out two reversal and two nearfall with seconds to go.
- Returning state 4th place Olivia Hofrichter did not qualify, falling to #6 Gwen Breckheimer- Chilton/Hilbert Fall in the sectional finals.
- Returning two-time runner-up Chloe LaRue was not entered at sectionals. The rumors I've heard are torn ACL. She's a very good wrestler and good kid too so I feel for her.
- Bi-State Champ and #3  Erika Sleznikow was pinned by #2 Natalie Klavetter in the sectional finals. Erika is one of the best freshmen in the state regardless of weight class.

Some of the biggest possible quarter-final matches Thursday. The numbers I'm using are the Grappler rankings, not seeds.
- 100 #4 Iszy Sonnentag Cadott vs #3 Katherine Cook Freedom
- 107 #4 Emma Hady Richland Center vs. #3 Cailyn Whittier Mukwonago Girls
- 114 #3 Lauryn Vee Saint Croix Falls or #5 Makenzie Usher Milton vs. #4 Savannah Danielson Wausau West. Lee is Savannah's only loss this year.
- 120 #4 Amelia Adams LaCrosse Vs. #6 Hayli Fletcher Fort Atkinson
- 132 #3 Riley Hanrahan Black River Falls vs #2 Josie Stachowski Mukwonago
- 145 #1 Madalyn Sokolski Bonduel vs. #2 Harlow Skenandore Pulaski
- 185 #4 Maev Michalak Germantown vs. #5 (6) Kayla Craig Milw. Ronald Reagan

I'm sure there are plenty of others I'm missing. These just jumped out during a quick browse.

womens_wrestling

My state final picks:
100 - Iszy Sonnentag over Brook Corrigan. A rematch of last year's finals that goes the other way this time.
107 - Taylor Whiting over Ava Peters
114 - Anchi Bianchi over Savannah Danielson
120 - Amelia Adams over Emjay Neumann
126 - Madi Peach over Natalie Klavetter
132 - Riley Hanrahan over Lillie Banks.
138 - Carley Ceshker over Hailey Berg
145 - Harlow Skenandore over Sydney Andrews. Harlow wins over defending champ Sokolski in the quarters and continues to a title.
152 - Kara Kuge over Hailie Krueger. Krueger is a two-time defending champ. Kara's only two losses this year are 1-0 and 2-3 (TB-1) to Hailie. Kara wins in the 3rd round this time.
165 - Rachel Schauer over Cyriana Reinwald. Either winner of Sophia Bassino and Rachel Schauer in the semis wins in the finals.
185 - Brooke Huffman over Maev Michalak. Maev upsets defending champ Ella Creighton in the semis. Brooke is as much of a lock as a pick could be.
235 - Madison Burns over Izabella Riebe

Girls wrestling definitely on the rise, not only in numbers but quality has risen a ton. Freshman not having the necessary seeding criteria the way it is currently set up is creating some unfortunate situations.

Since there are enough threads already talking about the seeding, let's just enjoy the fact we get some awesome matches early!

I'm most looking forward to these matches Thursday involving freshmen:

- 132 #3 Riley Hanrahan Black River Falls vs #2 Josie Stachowski Mukwonago
- 100 #4 Iszy Sonnentag Cadott vs #3 Katherine Cook Freedom
- 145 #1 Madalyn Sokolski Bonduel vs. #2 Harlow Skenandore Pulaski

Some of these brackets have gotten so tough too that it's not even possible to spread out all the hammers anymore. To win most of them, you have to get past at least one nationally ranked-wrestler. Wisconsin girls wrestling is getting bigger and better quickly!
