UW's 2022-23 season will be remembered as "Gomez - What If?"

It's clear he's not at "100 percent" whatever that means even in spite of a two-week layoff. He's been dealing with the same injury all season and it's affected his performance with the latest demonstration in the B1G meet and seems an injury that's going to require further medical treatment after the season to fully heal. Give him credit for trying to fight through it but you can see how frustrating it is for all parties involved.  You can game out all the What Ifs he's fully healthy, how that would have boosted UW in the standings along with all the Badgers would have won this season if that were true.

But if it's any consolation, this weekend simply joins a long, long list of woulda, coulda, shouldas, when it comes to the UW wrestling program. I mean, it's only been three years since Wick didn't even compete in 2020 B1G meet due to illness (we presume) when UW had a shot of top five finish and there's a lot more beyond that of Badger wrestlers just not getting the job done in B1G or NCAA tournaments for whatever reason no matter who the fricken coach is so he shouldn't feel alone in that regard. All the pieces never in one place at the same time. It's basically the program's motto

His shot frequency is way better than last season. Just struggles finishing. I see progress, but would love to see tons more.  He loses too many close matches. Even more evident is he loses too many matches in the last 30 seconds of the 3rd.

Still not sure 197 is his ideal weight.  Love the kid though. Want nothing but the best for him.

What would his other weight be?  285?  The spot will open up next year but he will need to weigh at least 235 to be competitive.  Look at how big, athletic and quick all of the big ten 285s are.  The top guys range from I bet 240-260.  I think Hilger is around 240 and he looks slightly smaller than most of the guys he wrestles.  Can Amos put on 40 lbs of muscle/mass in a year?  I don't see it on his frame.  NCAA needs a 220 class for guys just like him and all the other 195 and still growing and 220 lb high school wrestlers.
And then there was that.

Model should be qualified for the NCAAs now - 10 qualifiers at that weight.

Unfortunately I don't think there is an ideal NCAA weight for him.  I think his international weight is most suited for him to be at his peak (97 kg or 214 pounds).  I truly hope I am wrong.  I see definite growth from last year, but he still doesn't seem to be the same guy vs. when I see him wrestle international styles.

Hilger is 260+ per interviews. He was more like 230 last year, maybe even 225.

And then if LaMont wins, he's in. And assuming Gomez is healthy enough to compete, he'd likely get one of the wild cards at 149?
