MADISON, Wis. - No. 13 Wisconsin took down No. 24 Purdue 28-9 at the UW Field House on Friday. Garrett Model and Joseph Zargo headlined the B1G dual with two major upsets.

The Badgers started off slow, losing their first two matches and putting themselves in a 6-0 hole, but then went on to win seven of the next eight bouts, including a pin by Dean Hamiti and tech falls by Austin Gomez and Braxton Amos.

The first major upset the Badgers saw was No. 26 Joseph Zargo, who won on a 7-4 decision at 141 pounds, taking down No. 15 Parker Filius. Zargo controlled the match with three takedowns.

Just two matches later No. 18 Garrett Model secured a takedown in the final 15 seconds, beating No. 3 Kendall Coleman at 157. Model was down 3-2 and rallied for the upset victory and brought the crowd to their feet.

Tyler Dow and Trent Hillger also won their respective bouts tonight, both by decision.

Of note, three of Wisconsin's starters against Purdue all hail from the same hometown of Stoughton, Wis. Joining Badgers veterans Model and Dow, Nicolar Rivera earned his first Big Ten dual start at 133 pounds, narrowly losing a 7-3 decision against Dustin Norris in a hard-fought bout.

Full results are below. Wisconsin returns to the UW Field House on Sunday at 2 p.m. to wrestle No. 2 Iowa. The Big Ten dual will be broadcast nationally live on Big Ten Network with Shane Sparks and Jim Gibbons on the call. Fans are also encouraged to bring packages of new socks for the Sock Toss during intermission to help support Wisconsin's community partners in need with new socks.

Best I have seen Joey look this year.  Back to full motor for 7 minutes.  Didn't know he had been injured besides his ankle.  Newton mentioned this.

Model defended some nice double attacks. That has been one of his bigger weaknesses was TD defense.

Progress.  Big test Sunday

That was a great dual to be at! Took my two kids and two Godsons as a Christmas gift and they had a blast. Kids were able to get some pics with Zargo, Braxton, Gomez, and Model, as well as Bono and Gross after the match. We have a program built with good dudes! Last night was excellent.
thats the bottom line
On Wisconsin!
