Four Pointers Place at the Al Hanke Invitational

ELMHURST, Ill. - The UW-Stevens Point men's wrestling team had four athletes place in the top-five in their respective brackets at the AL Hanke Invitational on Saturday.

Results

Trystan Altensey (Port Byron, Ill./Riverdale) took third place in the 184 bracket with four wins. He won by fall, a 10-3 decision and a 9-0 major decision in the championship bracket. Then in the third-place match, he won by fall.

Josh Heuss (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) placed third in the 174 bracket. He won his first three matches of the day by decision, 2-1, 3-1 and 4-0. Damion Stirk (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) and Austin Schrei (Berlin, Wis./Berlin) each won a pair of matches in the consolation bracket.

Karson Richardson (Tolono, Ill./Unity) finished fourth in the 285 bracket. He won a 7-3 decision and another match by fall. Ben Gunderson (Shiocton, Wis./Shiocton) earned a pair of decision victories in the consolation bracket.

Brandon Peckham (Plainfield, Wis./Tri-County) took fifth place in the 165 bracket. He began the day with a 16-3 major decision. He won twice more on the day, a 4-1 victory in the second round and 3-2 win in the fifth-place match.

Cooper Peterson (Cannon Falls, Minn./Cannon Falls) picked up three wins in the 141 consolation bracket. He earned a win by fall, a forfeit and a tech fall.

In the 197 consolation bracket, Cody Weix (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) was the runner-up after two wins by fall and a 13-7 decision got him to the consolation championship. Blake Flach (Shell Lake, Wis./Shell Lake) earned two decision wins and Jack Callen (Portage, Wis./Portage) one in the 197 consolation bracket.

Blaze Thurber (Nekoosa, Wis./Nekoosa) earned a win by fall (2:43) in the 133 bracket.

In the 149 bracket, James Ahern (Plainfield, Wis./Tri-County) in a 6-4 decision and Kyle Smith (Madison, Wis./LaFollette) with a fall each picked up a win in the consolation bracket.

The Pointers return home for a dual against Carthage on Thursday (Jan. 19). Action in Berg Gym begins at 6:00 p.m.
