Wisconsin loses at Michigan, 27-6
Gomez, Amos earn individual wins in Badgers' road dual against Wolverines

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Austin Gomez and Braxton Amos both won decisions on Sunday evening at Cliff Keen Arena, but couldn't lead No. 13 Wisconsin to a team victory in a Big Ten dual at No. 8 Michigan.

The disappointing dual result saw Michigan take eight of 10 bouts at home, despite closely-fought battles in a number of weight classes.

The Wolverines jumped out to a 10-point lead before second-ranked Gomez broke the team scoring shutout with a 17-10 decision over Michigan's Chance Lamer. Gomez scored seven takedowns and two escapes in the victory, narrowly missing out on bonus-points after Lamer closed the scoring gap late in the bout with a late reversal and takedown. Gomez's victory updated the scoreboard to 10-3 with six bouts to go.

Amos earned a 4-0 decision over Michigan's Brendin Yatooma at 197 pounds thanks to a dominant second period on top to build up a large amount of riding time. Yatooma lost two points to Amos thanks to stalling penalties as well. The win gave the Badgers three more team points to make it 24-6, but Michigan's large lead held through the end of the dual.

At 125 pounds, Eric Barnett dropped a 12-6 decision to Michigan's unranked Jack Medley as Medley put up several points late in the bout with a reversal and nearfall points.

At 141 pounds, Joseph Zargo lost a close 6-2 decision to Cole Mattin, while teammates Garrett Model (157) and Trent Hillger (285) lost similarly close decisions to their Michigan opponents, losing 5-3 and 4-0 respectively.

Badgers true freshman James Rowley made his Big Ten debut in the dual, but lost a close 4-1 decision to Michigan's Max Maylor at 174 pounds.

In the evening's most anticipated bout, Dean Hamiti took Cameron Amine to a 3-3 tie with just seconds left in the 165-pound matchup but a late takedown sealed the loss as Amine won 5-3 in a bout we're sure to see again at Big Tens and/or NCAAs.

Full results are below. Wisconsin returns home next Friday for a dual against Purdue on B1G+ and then stays home on Sunday for a home dual against Iowa broadcast live on Big Ten Network.
