MADISON, Wis. - The National Wrestling Hall of Fame on Wednesday announced the state and regional winners of the Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award (DSHSEA). Future Badger James Rowley, who signed a national letter of intent to wrestle at Wisconsin starting this fall, earned the West Region Excellence Award and is now eligible to win the national excellence award to be announced on May 25.

Rowley is also now a four-time Oregon high school state champion and recently finished his high school career with a 154-10 overall record.

The DSHSEA was established in 1996 to honor Olympic and World champion Dave Schultz, whose career was cut short when he was murdered in January 1996. He was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame as a Distinguished Member in 1997 and as a member of the United World Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2016.

The DSHSEA recognizes and celebrates the nation's most outstanding high school senior male wrestlers for their excellence in wrestling, scholastic achievement, citizenship, and community service.

Current Badger Braxton Amos earned the 2020 NWHOF Dave Schultz National Excellence Award after winning both his region (Southeast) and state (West Virginia), while current UW associate head coach Jon Reader won the award for his region (Midwest) and state (Michigan) in 2006.

That's awesome.

Can't wait til this kid is in a Wisconsin singlet in the field house.
As long as we are keeping score, I've got something to prove
