An exciting weekend to be apart of the CWC conference. 3 Teams are definitely in the mix and its anyone's opportunity to take. Yes, I agree 220 will be fun with a hopeful finals match of Vanden Hoffman against Gauderman. My only fear is they bump Guaderman away from us.....anything can happen though right

Most would agree Gauderman is the favorite at 220, doubt he will be bumping away from anyone in the CWC.

CWC Multi Duals going on this weekend. Could end up seeing Vigue vs Bartel. 220 should have a great match up with Vanden Hoffman vs David Gauderman. Any other matches that I am missing?

Throw Shioctons Sanchez into the mix with Hoffman and Gauderman.

I hope you delete this before ChargerDad reads this. I see no reason why Gauderman is not wrestling Hoffman tomorrow or at conference. First comment on the forum is a hot take.

I got a little chuckle out of that:-) I'm just a dad, and wasn't sure if the match ups would happen because in a dual format event, you do what you need to in order to maximize the team score.  Team comes first, always has, always will. 

BUT the matchups happened, all three ranked 220 wrestlers competed against each other.  Gauderman TF'd Sanchez in the first period, and pinned Hoffman in the first.  Hoffman beat Sanchez by decision.  Sanchez gave him all he could handle, impressive effort by the freshman.  Think he weighed in at 189 or something like that, and scrapped like a veteran at 220.  Didn't back down from anyone.   I wouldn't be surprised if he finds a way to beat Hoffman at some point this year.  If there was a spot at 182 for him in their lineup, I think he could do some damage, his ability would be a problem for many there even as a freshman, but that Shiocton lineup is just too strong for him to get in the lineup there.  At 220, he's a better wrestler than many of the 220's, he's just giving up a lot of weight, strength, and certainly some experience.  Looking forward to watching that kid wrestle the next few years when it's not against the Chargers!!

jab from the stands gets Timmy worked up.  I am guessing it  would have been different if he would have been  winning.

126 was a BLAST today!!  I think that "chicken" reference came from the Wega stands.  Mannel could have gotten down to 126 as well and maybe changed things (don't remember how the flip would have affected that..)..   Some people also forget that in a dual, the primary goal is to win the dual, not to get certain kids to match up.  If the good individual match ups happen, that's a bonus for those kids and the fans, but #1 goal has to be to win the dual, and coaches do what they have to do to make that happen.  From a team perspective, going into 126, we had 1 wrestler for 2 weight classes, and it's 39-30 WB.  Why would we forfeit at 126 to make it 39-36 when the odds of winning 126 were greater than 132 by anyone with even a basic understanding of wrestling??  That doesn't make any sense.  You take the matchup you believe the best chance to win the dual.  It's that simple.

Like chargerdad said, the dual came down to the last few matches. WB did what they had to do to win the dual. That comment came from a grandparent in the stands and was inappropriate and inaccurate. We don't support that behavior, ESPECIALLY if the comment was directed at a student athlete!

The issue at hand was handled well by the WF coaches and athletes.  While I was shocked by the comment a few wrestlers and the coaches apologized for that persons behavior.  The two will meet soon enough.

That Mannel vs. Carton match was crazy and IMO notable not because Mannel won, but because the margin was 2.  In the long run, that match probably serves both wrestlers well.  Mannel got a match that pushed him probably more than he wanted, which IMO is a good thing when you can find a way to come out with a win, and Carton gets some confidence competing that well against a hammer going into the postseason.   

And as I said a little about in my previous comment, the Hoffman vs. Sanchez match was super exciting.  Gets me excited when I see a big freshman come in and fight like Sanchez did.  You look at his results, and you maybe can't tell, but Sanchez fought his butt off from start to finish in both of his matches.  Almost hit an arm spin early in the match against Gauderman, and was in position with a body lock and couldn't finish simply because he was giving up too much size and strength.  Fought the whole time when a lot of kids may have faded in that spot..  Against Hoffman, he DID hit an arm spin from the bottom position to get an escape and nearly a reversal and back points.  Gave a more physically mature Hoffman all he wanted.  For Hoffman, big step up from his Freshman year, which is something you love to see, especially from a big kid as kids mature into these upper weight classes.  Those 2 are going to represent the CWC well the next few years, and I'll be a fan whenever they aren't on the mat against a Charger!
