I think for now, it's still Gable. Sanderson will pass him in all coaching metrics and take that mantle.
As long as we are keeping score, I've got something to prove

Each is certainly the best of his own era.  So many changes in the sport between those times that it's hard to crown one as the greatest of all time.  I agree that the ball will soon be in Sanderson's court, if we are just looking at stats.  However, we shouldn't overlook Gable's incredible impact on wrestling and that it still is positively impacting the sport.

Gable won the Olympics without a point scored on him.

Gable was 131-2-1 in the Big 10 as the head coach at Iowa.  Anybody know which team(s) beat/tied him?

Total guess, off the top of my head...

And that was because his knee was boogered up. Too bad he wasn't at 100%, of I like to think he would have turned on the conditioning and pounded his way through.

I think the world of both men. Both have been the best of the best. How do you pick?

Gable, Dave Schultz and a mess of Badgers were my heroes back in the 80's.

Loved watching CS, too. You knew what was coming. Nobody could not get picked, though. Both classy gents, IMHO.
If I agreed with you we'd both be wrong.

I know Wisconsin tied them. My guess would be 1 loss to Minnesota, 1 loss to Michigan
