Huskers Fall to No. 1 Penn State in State College

State College, Pa., -- The No. 7 Nebraska Cornhuskers fell to the No. 1 Penn State Nittany Lions 25-6 on Sunday afternoon. NU won two out of the ten matches against PSU as #13 Zeke Moisey (125) and #5 Taylor Venz (184) earned victories by decision. With the win, Penn State has now won its last 52 duals dating back to Feb. 15, 2015.

NU grabbed the first points of the day on a 6-1 decision for #13 Zeke Moisey over Devin Schnupp. Moisey earned two takedowns and accumulated over four minutes of riding time in the win.

The Nittany Lions went on to win the next six matches to turn a 3-0 deficit into a 19-3 lead. After #13 Roman Bravo-Young delivered a 20-7 major decision over NU freshman Jevon Parrish (133), returning All-America honoree #19 Chad Red Jr. (141) fought #6 Nick Lee tooth and nail to the finish. He fell just one takedown short of a huge victory, dropping a 5-4 decision.

Fargo, N.D., native Jordan Shearer (141) battled hard with #10 Brady Berge of Penn State until the final whistle, earning a third period reversal to cut the lead to 5-4. Berge tacked on one point for riding time and one for a Shearer penalty to win 7-4.

The most highly anticipated match of the day between #1 Jason Nolf of Penn State and #2 Tyler Berger of Nebraska was controlled throughout by Nolf, the two-time defending national champion at 157 pounds. Nolf landed two takedowns in the first and one in each of the final two periods. Berger earned four points on escapes but struggled to get his offense going.

Chicago, Ill., native Isaiah White, the sixth-ranked 165-pounder in the country, took on #1 Vincenzo Joseph of Penn State. The only points scored in the bout were on a third period escape by Joseph and his 1:06 riding time advantage over White. Joseph took home a 2-0 decision to put Penn State up 16-3.

#9 Mikey Labriola (174) became the first of #1 Mark Hall's 16 opponents to take him down in a dual this year. The redshirt freshman from Easton, Pa., showed well in his home state, but couldn't overcome the two-time All-America honoree as he dropped a 5-3 decision.

Sophomore Taylor Venz, the No. 5 ranked wrestler in the country at 184 pounds, won his second dual of the weekend and 14th in 17 tries this year as he took a decisive 7-1 decision over Mason Manville. Manville jumped up a weight class from 174 to wrestle Venz. PSU's Shakur Rasheed, the No. 3 184-pounder in the country, was a late scratch and did not wrestle today.

Nebraska's #11 Eric Schultz (197) landed a late takedown against #1 Bo Nickal to bring the score to 7-6, giving the two-time defending national champion a scare in the penultimate match of the day. Nickal tacked on a point for riding time to escape with an 8-6 victory by decision.

Penn State finished the match with a 25-6 victory after #4 Anthony Cassar defeated NU's #14 David Jensen 10-4.

With the win, the Nittany Lions moved to 7-0 (3-0 B1G) while the Huskers dropped to 8-3 (2-2 B1G). Penn State will go on the road next weekend to compete against Purdue and Indiana, while the Huskers will host Illinois on Sunday.
