So does success = $$, or does $$ = success??  :)

So if Alvarez gives Bono another cool Mill to play with, the Badgers will soon be top 3 in the Nation.  ;D

MNbadger

No, but if he doesn't you can be sure they won't.

The gap in spending is even greater when you consider the clubs.

I thought Davis did a better job than most considering the spending challenges.  His weakness though in terms of marketing and promoting UW was not a strength. This appears to be a big strength of Bono.  I think the excitement Bono and staff will be able to create will increase interest and spending.  Hope that leads to great results.

Thanks for sharing, man. I love having tangible facts to use when comparing different programs. This is as tangible as it gets.

I wish they'd just break that single figure down into two, Scholarships and The Rest. Then, it'd be even more overt which programs are really committed because the article makes it clear a huge part of Rutgers increased financial commitment is just a huge rise in tuition costs.

Where do we think Wisconsin ranks in tuition costs, vis-a-vis the rest of the Big Ten?

Same as MN. :) I'm guessing for residents, most would be pretty close; probably more out east as they have a higher cost of living. Maybe we should co-op with MN, since we share tuition reciprocity.
If I agreed with you we'd both be wrong.

Within a couple hundred bucks of each other. WI is the cheaper, though.
I've noticed that the MN state system, as a whole, does not communicate, nor sell itself, anywhere near as well as the UW system.

Every year I go to a mega UW system get together where reps from every UW school come and let us all know what they have to offer, and all those folks get along great. We always have counselors and admin. from MN high schools that say they do nothing of the sort in MN. They also tell me that reps from their schools will try totally kids out of a school they'd planned on to go to the school the rep. works for. I'd have to tell someone like that to take a hike. Had a military recruiter like that....ONCE. :)

You'd know more than me, but doesn't reciprocity just mean their kids pay our in-state rate and vice versa. That doesn't mean each school's in-state rate is the same.

MN residents currently pay almost $4,000 more to attend UW Madison then WI residents pay

If you're an undergraduate student from Minnesota and attending The University of Wisconsin-Madison your tuition will be the higher of the tuition charged by the University of Wisconsin-Madison or by the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities

2017-18 Undergraduate Tuition & Fees  In-State/Out-of-State
Indiana University    $10,533/$34,845

I didn't find anything more recent, but when the NCAA first allowed a stipend in addition to cost of attendance UW was 2nd behind Penn State in the amount they gave out.

Big Ten schools ranked by their allowances for miscellaneous expenses (stipend). Also included are total cost of 2014-15 attendance at Big Ten universities for state residents and students from outside the university's state borders.
Rank - School - in state - out of state - stipend
1   Penn State$34,506   $47,456   $4,788
2   Wisconsin   $24,475   $40,725   $4,265

4   Indiana   $24,417   $47,270   $3,026
5   Maryland   $24,214   $44,507   $3,024

Big G, MN does not have a comparable system to WI.  The UW system is one of the best if not the best in the nation.  MN has an amalgamation of privates.  The MN consortium is not as varied or complete.

And WI resident pay extra to go to MN Twin Cities. Madison ranks much higher overall, though, so they tend to attract our best and MN's best more than the other way around. Better athletics at UW, too. Pretty soon, MN will lose their one stronghold...wrestling. :) We'll see hwta happens to our hoops team, though. This last season was Bud Tuglee.
If I agreed with you we'd both be wrong.

UW Madison rinks higher but not necessarily "much" higher than you stated (one search shows WI at #46 while they had MN at #69).  When ranking colleges there is enough subjectivity that #46 vs #69 is not a huge difference.  Additionally, WI took a dive from their previously perennial very high national and world reputation/ ranking with recent budget cuts, especially to their research departments.
It would certainly depend on your area of study.  For instance, the U of MN Engineering Program is one of the top in the world so one would definitely choose MN over WI if that is your area.

Oh, MN comes ahead in  more than just a few areas. And UW , I believe ewas at 31 and MN at 34 per US News/World Report (which started the whole process.) Both excellent. Personally, I prefer MN and have sent many more there than to UW. If I were to pick one for me, it would be MN Twin Cities. But, I take kids to both.
