San Luis Obispo, Calif. – Northwestern dominated en route to its third consecutive win to open the season, beating Cal Poly on the road, 30-8.

The Wildcats won eight bouts, including four by bonus point decisions. 18 of their 27 individual wins so far this year have resulted in bonus points.

"I am excited about the way we competed today," head coach Matt Storniolo said. "We wrestle hard up and down the lineup, and it is nice to see the guys hungry to score points. We have been preaching for the guys to stay on their offense and put points on the board."

Eight Northwestern wrestlers improved to 3-0. Anthony Rubinetti, Jason Ipsarides, Shayne Oster, Bryce Brill, Johnny Sebastian, Mitch Sliga, Jacob Berkowitz and Conan Jennings all remain perfect two weeks into the season.

Rubinetti got the Wildcats going early with a second period fall to start the dual at 125 lbs. He chose to start in the bottom position to begin the period and quickly pulled a reversal that led right into a pin. Ipsarides then came out at 133, got an early lead and built on it to the tune of an 8-1 win to put Northwestern up 9-0 after two bouts.

The true freshman Oster continued the stellar start he has had to his collegiate career with a 14-3 major decision at 149 lbs., and Brill followed that up with a major decision of his own after a takedown with just two seconds left gave him a 10-2 win.

"Shane isn't your typical true freshman," Storniolo said. "He is extremely comfortable on the mat, and he stays cool, calm and collected no matter the position and finds a way to come out on top."

The Wildcats took a 17-5 lead into intermission.

Sebastian got out to an easy 4-0 lead with a takedown and two nearfall points early in the first period and then hung on for a 6-1 decision. He was followed by a 9-2 decision from Mitch Sliga that put the Wildcats up 23-8 and clinched the team win for Northwestern.

The 'Cats got right back to scoring bonus points with Berkowitz at 197 lbs. He jumped out to a big 10-3 lead and scored a takedown as time expired to make it 13-4. Jennings then finished the match off at heavyweight with an 8-4 win.

Next up is a dual at Bloomsburg. The Wildcats and Huskies will meet on Friday, Nov. 18 in Bloomsburg, Pa. at 6 p.m. CT. Northwestern will then immediately head to Philadelphia for the Keystone Classic, which runs all day on Sunday, Nov. 20.
