During the 2016-17 school year, Drury University athletes will compete in wrestling for the first time in the school's lengthy history. Not only is it the first time that Drury has ever had a wrestling team, but when the season begins in November, the Panthers will end southwest Missouri's 22 year drought without a collegiate wrestling team. That span began when Missouri State University, formerly known as Southwest Missouri State, dropped the sport in 1994.

Officially released in November 2015, Drury announced that it would be joining five other schools in the Great Lakes Valley Conference in NCAA-II wrestling. Now with six teams – including Maryville, Truman State, Indianapolis, McKendree and Wisconsin-Parkside – the GLVC reaches the six-team requirement to be able to host a league championship in the future.

Awesome! Love to hear about colleges and universities adding instead of dropping wrestling.
