Waukesha native Gwen Jorgensen qualifies for Olympics in triathlon
Gwen Jorgensen will be going for gold in 2016.

Jorgensen, a Waukesha native and former swimmer and standout runner at the University of Wisconsin, punched her ticket for the 2016 Olympic Games on Sunday by winning the ITU World Olympic Qualification triathlon at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro.

Jorgensen won with a time of 1 hour 58 minutes 46 seconds on the standard 1,500-meter swim, 40-kilometer bike, 10-kilometer run course, which is expected to be the same next year when the women's triathlon event is contested on Aug. 20 during the Olympic Games. This seems to be my son's favorite event. Now, he's got someone to root for (and, maybe one day, shoot for.)

Thanks Tom. 8)
If I agreed with you we'd both be wrong.

Gwen's sister was in a grad class with me.  The class went to a Brewers game together and Gwen came along.  That was before she began her training for triathlons, but it is really fun to have a small connection.  She was a great athlete at UW in swimming and track.  Very nice person as well.
