Alumni, Friends and Family,

We are now into the third week of training in our second cycle for our Badger athletes. The first cycle went from June 10-July 1 and the second cycle will go from July 13 to August 7. The plan is then to take a handful of guys out to the World Team Training Camp at the Olympic Training Center in August. We are asking more of our athletes this summer than we have in the past, more than most other programs are as well. We are working hard lifting and wrestling, but emphasis is being placed on technique and drilling.

Freestyle and Greco

It was a busy week for Coaches Brandvold and Ruschell as they were part of the Wisconsin Wrestling Federation coaching staff for the USA Wrestling Cadet and Junior National Championships in Fargo. RTC athletes Kulchytskyy and Eppert were also working with athletes competing in Fargo as Nazar was helping the Wisconsin Team and Camden was coaching Indiana. The Cadet and Junior Nationals in Fargo is the largest wrestling tournament in the World, with competition taking place over seven days on as many as 24 mats. Incoming Badgers Chadd, Martin and Reinhart all participating with Mason Reinhart placing 3rd in the Greco-Roman competition at 182lbs. Cole Martin finished one match out of placing in the top 8 in Freestyle in one of the toughest weights in the Juniors. He defeated two wrestlers ranked in the top 15 nationally. Next month Coach Hull will be heading to Serajavo, Bosnia to Coach the USA Cadet Team at the World Championships.

USA Wrestling 2020 Camp and Cadet World Team Camp

As communicated last week, the Wisconsin Regional Training Center hosted the USA Wrestling 2020 Camp and Cadet World Team Training Camp on July 5-11 on the UW Campus. To verify how talented a group of athletes these were, 34 of the high school athletes at camp earned All American status at the UWW Cadets, Fargo Cadets or Fargo Juniors this year. Half of them were either National Champions or runner-up! Being able to work with these athletes for an entire week as part of the USA Wrestling Coaching staff will pay dividends with recruiting over the next 3-4 years.

Over the next month we will be working on the social network plan that will include a website, Facebook and twitter presence. This is being developed with the support and experience of Badger NCAA Champion Pat Christenson. Pat is the Director of Las Vegas Events, which is responsible for bringing a wide range of events to Las Vegas. They were a major player in getting the UWW Wrestling World Championships to Las Vegas in September. One of the properties they own is the National Finals Rodeo, which brings over 50,000 people to Vegas each December. More on this over the next month!
