Cleveland State "discontinues funding for wrestling"

In a story that says they are adding men's lacrosse, they just happen to mention that they are also dropping wrestling.

BTW - lacrosse is not even a varsity sport in Ohio High School athletics.

One more D1 wrestling program gone. Amazing.

Approximately 35 years ago, a high school in Illinois decided to defund their wrestling program, with the intent of dropping the sport.  My father, a former high school assistant and Jr. high coach, was recruited via a strong public campaign in the local media, to save the program.  The local athletic booster club raised the funds to pay all coaches and provide an adequate budget for the high school and Jr. high teams, contingent upon him becoming the head coach.  The school agreed to keep the program, under those circumstances.  The program improved during his years at the helm and the school district eventually reinstated all funding.  Since then, the program has had some very successful years and produced some very good individuals.  It is still alive, today.  This year they sent 4 kids to state...   and it's been a down year for them.  Last year, one of their graduates was a DI All American.  It can be done; I hope Cleveland State's supporters don't give up hope.
