Its Pat Durkin, the story is just to grab attention. There is no new information in it.

Rammy, how does being a Private land owners land make them smelting pots for the deer herd?...if anything, Private land owners can see the problems long time before the DNR can...down here, we had a lot bigger problem a few yrs ago,  in Aug of 2011 we started to find Dead Deer, big Racked buck, Does and yearlings laying around our swamps and creeks, after we and 6 other private land owners in the immediate area started looking, we found 18 of them, we called in a local Lady we knew, who i went to school with and is a Wildlife Expert from the UWM, who specialises in Anminal diseases and sickness, after 3 weeks she came back with the answer before the DNR, whom we also contacted and came out to look....she said she had sent samples to a friend of hers who heads up the MSU Diagnostics center and she concluded that is was a Bleeding disorder..from what she told me, and i made her tell me in layman terms... :o... it sounded a lot like the effects that Warfarin would have on rats...funny thing is, the DNR never came out and said a word about it until a yr later after a lot of deer were being found dead in the counties north of us...go figure

In that area they want the deer population drastically reduced many landowners refuse to do that as though the deer belong to them. I could careless what they do its not as a dramatic conspirecy as you want to blow it up as.

maggie

they want it reduced before they even have a clue as to how many deer there really are...there doing just as the INS companies want them to do!...I DO CARE....that's where we Differ.... ;)

I am trying to understand your point Maggie...

Who are "they" and what is "it" and how does that compare to what the INS companies want, and who are "them"?  Other than what I ask, I follow you...

maggie

What does controlling the deer herd have to do with this?... :o....well, ya seen what THE DNR did to your old hunting grounds right goat....THE SENT JOE PUBLIC ON A KILLING SPREE THAT HAS LASTED HOW MANY YRS NOW?      Not sure if there are any left there or not...but that's here nor there, it is the DNR job to keep us informed and up to date with what's going on with our wildlife....they dropped the ball...

Thanks Maggie, and the INS companies want the deer killed too?

I guess I am reading from a couple of posters that deer populations in some areas are prolific.  Your saying there has been a killing spree so the population is down.

What I was trying to understand is if the deer population is down, then shouldn't the concerns about the disease be down?  And, if the disease is down, doesn't that mean there is a difference between down and gone, so it should be expected that examples of the disease would still exist and don't necessarily serve as proof of a growing problem?

I drove back from EauClaire Sunday and between EC and Wausau the number of deer lying dead was unbelievable. Crows are eating very good. I know several landowners that refuse to allow deer specifically does to be taken on thier land. As Goat said the population levels are and densities are incredible. then to add to the problem many of them pour corn out that corn concentrates those deer and the desease is easily transmitted between the effected and no effected deer. The DNR has banned baiting in those areas that were effected yet many landowners and so called hunters pur out tons of corn/potatoes/pumpkins in piles to attract the deer and hold them on thier hunting lease. This practice is one of the reasons the desease continues to spread.

maggie

Dale, when i said killing spree, i was pointing to the fact that the DNR believed that every single deer must be killed to ensure for a Disease free deer state, as Goat pointed out, there were many, many deer in the area he hunted, the DNR came into that area first and let hunters shoot as many deer as they pleased witched resulted in the very Severe drop in the population, a yr later the same rules went into affect to most all the southern Wis County's, to kill off CWD, DNR so called, "sharpshooters" went door to door asking farmers permission to set up corn piles to shoot the deer both during the day and at night, and pleaded with all others to kill as well. what it did was put a wedge between sportsman and farmers, most of the area farmers already knew that those hunting there land took care of the problem himself....i agree with Goat in the fact that we had too many deer, but i don't believe the DNR handled the problem very well. i recall in the late 70"s farmers could get Purple crop damage Ag tags, that soon turned into a mess also as i recall hunters showing up on the land and saying the DNR had given them the right to hunt there.. :o..yes, it did pit gun against gun as i recall also..soon after, farmers were made to fill out new DNR paperwork to show who was hunting on there land/what time and how many if some of there land was in CRP...my point all along has been if nothings broke, don't try to fix it...if only yrs ago the Wis DNR would have just stayed with a 9 day, one tag either or deer, we would never be in the predicament we are in now...and yes, pressure from the INS companies played a huge part in it all, more so down here after the Bucks only and a single party doe tag went in affect back in the day....

Rammy, if this is true as you say, that it is so incredible populated with deer in that area, and i believe it is, why then does the DNR still let hunters place corn piles out to attract and kill them?....that makes no sense to me what so ever....the DNR is telling us that  feeding them is one of there main reasons we still have CWD around, then why is the DNR letting people feed them in certain CO....should have been banned long ago...right?
