So, proposed budget cuts could negatively impact non-revenue sports....    :P

Sure, roughly equivalent to spending beyond means.

I hope that's not how the "powers that be" regard the cost of the wrestling team.  Would really suck to lose it.   :'(
It's not the budget cuts but rather the payment of student athletes draining the athletic dept funds.

Sorry to hear of any funding issues possibly impacting athletic opportunities, whether it's one or both of these developments.  Hope they get it all sorted out, resulting in a positive outcome.   :P

If colleges are going to be required to pay athletes more, then would it be unreasonable to ask bowl sponsors to contribute a bit more to participants?

And, the fact remains, that only 11 D1 programs in the entire nation are in the black from a financial perspective.

I am very confident that despite the huge windfalls of bowl games, and final four appearances, and jersey sales, and ticket sales, and, and, and, that there will be less than 11 programs in the black when scholarship athletes become employees of the universities.

When "we" increase the costs of programs, the programs will adjust; other costs will be reduced. "We" can wring our hands and stomp our feet and say catchy things like "but, the revenue from bowl games are so huge" in our best and loudest whiney voices, but at the end of the day when costs go up in one area they will go down in others.  So, we will see things like no baseball; perhaps no wrestling in the future.

The number of 11 keeps popping up in 2008 and 2009 but I see that as recent as 2014 they are talking double to triple that amount in D1 that are in the black.

Isn't the Big10 network a huge money maker for the member schools? Is that money getting siphoned away from athletics?

Good point.  Also wonder about all the merchandising income.  Somebody made plenty of $ off of all my Badgers apparel purchases!

we do need support if we are ever going to see it again, thats for sure....showing up next weekend to play in the Badger Desert Golf Classic at the Las Vegas CC in Vegas and then join the many Wisconsinites who be attending the Auction Fundraiser at the Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino on Sun the 26th of April will help a bit.... :)
