Small Wis. town buried under 73 inches of snow

GILE, Wis. - They're not getting the attention folks in Buffalo are, but a small community in Wisconsin is wrestling with enough snow to make life challenging.

The snow total in Gile, Wisconsin, a community near the Michigan border, has reached 73 inches over the past week. That's a lot,, considering that Duluth gets an average of only 86 inches of the white stuff. Gile is said to average 217 to 227 inches each winter. Still, things are going on pretty much as normal. The roads are mostly plowed and school is in session.

Homeowners, however, are concerned about the weight of all that snow on their roofs and have been shoveling to avoid collapse. And for those who are new to the area, like Texas native Ricardo Luna, it's a lot to take in. Luna owns a bar and grill in town, and says foot traffic is down significantly.

"I've never seen this much snow in my life," said Luna in a bit of an understatement.

It's not done, either. Forecasters say up to 7 additional inches of snow could fall on Gile and the surrounding area Thursday night.
