I would like to see D1.  I get this impression that the southern half of the state seems to have the more dominating D1 wrestling these days. I divide North and South from Sheboygan to Lacrosse.  The Madison and Milwaukee areas and surrounding communities seem to be getting much stronger while many of the northern schools are on a downswing.

Do the stats support that impression?
Of Course, this is only my opinion and no one elses!

Sort of related is I've often wondered with the line your using, how many D1 schools south of your line compared to how many D1 north of this line?

Yes it is.

Just it seems that people want numbers and points and I figured you were the man for those kinds of things!

If you average the place taken by every state qualifer from a given sectional (giving every non-placewinner 11.5th place), the numbers look like this

D1
Sectional A (Wausau West)       6.66
Sectional D (Sheboygan South)  7.91
Sectional C (Waunakee)            8.2
Sectional F (West Allis Central)   8.38
Sectional E (Oconomowoc)        8.41
Sectional H (Racine Horlick)       9.29
Sectional G (Milw. Riverside)      9.34
Sectional B (Green Bay Preble)   9.82

So the lowest-performing D1 sectional by average place at state was the Bay Port/Pulaski/Wisconsin Rapids sectional!  Talk about a changing of the guard!

In D2 and D3, the non-placewinners take 9.5th place (halfway between 7th and 12th place).

D2 Numbers:

Sectional B (Seymour)        5.20
Sectional A (Amery)           6.56
Sectional C (Adams-Friend) 6.95
Sectional D (East Troy)      7.29

D3 Numbers:

Sectional C (Necedah)          5.37
Sectional B (Bonduel)           6.19
Sectional A (Independence)   7.00
Sectional D (Cedar Grove)     7.44

Little guy you give me to much credit, besides it is my only comeback to the depth of the Seymour sectional

So the power shift to the south that someone mentioned is a myth.

This does surprise me a bit.  I knew the Green Bay sectional was down but am really surprised how well the Sheboygan South sectional did as I thought that was down also. I am surprised that sectional beat Waunakee which I expected to be pretty good and the West Allis Central and Oconomowoc sectionals surprised me with their success at state so I figured they beat would beat the Sheboygan South Sectional.

Quick and dirty breakdown of just total placewinners in D1

A: 17
B: 6
C: 11
D: 11
E: 11
F: 11
G: 9
H: 8

An average sectional should have 10.5 placewinners.  An average sectional's APS (the numbers above) is 8.5

I think to accurately speak about which section of the state is improving you have to look at history a little bit.

APS Scores for the last 3 years
    2014        2013        2012
A    6.66        6.59        7.48
B    9.82        8.84        7.95
C    8.20        8.50        9.07
D    7.91        8.57        8.89
E    8.41        7.50        5.95
F    8.38        9.43        8.43
G    9.34        9.29        10.70
H    9.29        9.29         9.63

A has gone from comfortably above average to very above average
B has slid from above average to slightly below average to noticeably below average
C has stayed fairly average
D has improved from just below average to just above average
E has taken a hit.  They are now "down" to average
F has been pretty average, though 2013 was not kind
G has improved, though they are still a below-average sectional
H has stayed the same - a below-average sectional.

For reference, the best APS posted in D1 in the last 8 years was the Rapids sectional of 2007  AVERAGE place at state of a qualifier was 4.82!!!   The worst APS was the next year in sectional H... APS of 10.93.  Had every single wrestler lost out, it would have been 11.5.

whatever

For the record, CLC - I love your statistical analyses.....
