I hope everyone is having a great week! We had a roller coaster of a trip down south.  We saw glimpses of our potential and of great wrestling throughout the day on Sunday.  We also made way too many mistakes.  The mistakes were made for the most part by young athletes getting after it... we can correct that, get better on bottom, and continue to get stronger throughout the season.  Overall it was a weekend that left us knowing there's lots of work to do but also with an excitement about what this team can accomplish this season.

125- R.Taylor is an exciting wrestler to watch! He is a good size 125lber who has done a great job getting his weight under control and feeling strong at the weight.  He's only going to get better as he gains more experience and continues to heal and get stronger.  (Cavallaris wrestled vs. UNC and was outmatched.  To his credit Matt came back and won some good matches in the Hokie Open)

133- Graff is stronger and more technically sound than last year which is scary!

141- Jesse had a tough weekend but he never hung his head or stopped wrestling.  We'll continue to work on positions and get him stronger.  He'll be just fine.

149- TJ wrestled well also but didn't get the results he wanted.  He got beat wrestling hard and will close the gap on the guys he lost to.  Both TJ and Jesse will get better throughout the season because of their styles and attitudes.  I don't think you can say the same about some of their opponents.

157- Isaac had a good start to a big season for him.  He stays in such good position throughout his matches.  His leg attack will continue to get better as his confidence grows and he gets stronger.

165- B. Cox got hurt in the 1st period of his 1st match Friday night.  He will be out this weekend but is planning on making the trip out east in a week and competing then.  Frank did a good job stepping in and getting a few wins.  We're excited to see Ben healthy and at his correct weight class.  He's definitely paid his dues.

174- Scott got hurt the 2nd match of the trip and was unable to compete on Sunday.  Even though he was hurt the majority of the match he still beat a NQ.  He will also be out this week but will make the trip East to compete next week.  Only being able to travel with 15 (NCAA rule) we didn't have enough healthy bodies to wrestle this weight class on Sunday.  Scott wrestles, we win all the duals but we need to make sure he's healthy and feeling good for March.  Believe me... we hated sitting there and forfeiting more than anything but it was the right thing to do for our team and Scott in the long run.

184- Jackson had a great weekend going until he got hurt in the final match of the day.  He beat two ranked opponents before that match.  Jackson will be out this week but hopefully will wrestle next week as well.

197- Timmy went from not taking a shot on Sunday and losing 2-0 to beating two solid opponents.  Consistency is the key here.  Timmy has all the tools!

HWT- Connor wrestled well in his 1st 3 and kinda tight in his last couple.  Heavyweight is a tough weight class to have to push for bonus points at if the opponent isn't wrestling against you.  Connor is going to have some closer matches but needs to focus on getting his hand raised and moving to the next opponent...  Although he can tight waist tilt nearly everyone in the country.  He will be wrestling this weekend!

Line Up this weekend

125- R. Taylor or M. Cavallaris (might wrestle 2nd dual)
133- T. Graff
141- J. Thielke
149- TJ Ruschell
157- I. Jordan
165- F. Cousins
174- B. Hochstaetter
184- D. Iczkowski
197- T. McCall
HWT- C. Medbery

*Cox, Liegel, and Hein should be good to go for the American dual and Navy Classic.

Thanks for the support, excitement, and commitment to Wisconsin Wrestling! Even though we lost a couple duals we don't feel any different about this season.  These guys are exciting to watch and wrestle hard.  Hope to see you in Whitewater on Friday!

Thanks for the update Trevor!

A stronger and more technically sound Tyler Graff is very scary indeed.

Thanks Trevor.  You are a class act and a great coach!  Thank you for answering a few of my questions from the other thread.

It says on the box score that Ben Cox wrestled one of the Sunday duals (Wisconsin vs ODU).  It take it that it a typo and it should have been Frank Cousins?
