This is standard operation for the Badgers.  If they don't perceive any issues, they extend a coach's contract by one year each year.  If you want to fire a non-revenue coach, the buy out is always pretty small in terms of the huge athletic budget

If a 12th place out of 12 teams last year at the Big Ten Tournament and this years 10th out of 12 teams performance does not qualify as "don't perceive any issues", then Barry is safe for life.

This is standard in EVERY sport. It would be impossible to recruit an athlete to a school if the coach isn't under contract for 4 years.  The fact that he hasn't been extended longer term is more telling.
