This POST has nothing to do with Thielke despite the fact that the thread does.  I want to preface my post by saying that or Rocky or someone else will take it the wrong way, but it really is amazing how few high profile college wrestlers are in this group.

Is there a college NC in there?

Scourge, I was thinking the same thing but it will raise many hackles to point this out!

Is this why "freestyle" guys have better luck in college, than Greco guys?

College recruiters spend a lot more time watching and following freestyle results and put a much larger emphasis on freestyle at Fargo.  Greco success does not translate as well to folkstyle.

In turn great folkstyle wrestlers can become successful freestyle wrestlers with a lot less training than it takes to learn and master the techniques of Greco.  Greco is its own discipline where freestyle and folkstyle are pretty close.
Of Course, this is only my opinion and no one elses!

I gained a new level of respect for Greco after watching Jesse Thielke wrestle at the Midlands.

He was able to execute several throws during that tournament and many opponents became a little gun-shy, or defensive against him, because he was able to throw them from many positions.

Most people prefer to wrestle freestyle, but I would encourage wrestlers to enter tournaments in both styles.

I think it's extremely important for kids and HS kids to LEARN how to wrestle Greco.  To wrestle it in the off-season at camps, state, etc..etc...

More because it teaches guys how to NOT get thrown and stay out of trouble than anything else.

Obviously Freestyle is more competitive in the US because fewer guys participate in Greco, but I agree with how important it is to learn Greco.

Excellent. Also proud to see this young man doing so well.

Fun to watch. Greco seems more like a fight than FS. I always got so tired in Greco; but thought it was my better style.
If I agreed with you we'd both be wrong.

Jesse is #1 in my book!

Only tried greco once and didn't really care for it, think I was drugged or something though. Had to wrestle this Casetta  and some Shumaker guy and woke up all dizzy and beat up like someone gave me a whole bunch of pills or something?

Aaron Casetta was a beast on the mat, extremely nice guy off the mat.

I would have been thinking about Brad Cassetta a Fondy kid that was in my grade that I come up with.  He was a stud.  Got upset at state after going in with a 35-1 type record and ended up taking a 5th if he hadn't mentioned Shumaker.

Another really good Greco wrestler and was on the 1998 team that took second in state with Brandon McNabb.
