Aren't they the same as the boys this year?

Thanks for the response! So, does this mean that there will be 8 girls who qualify from D1, 4 from D2, and 4 from D3- to make a 16 girl bracket at State? (And "at large" bids for any open spots, per the video sent out)

Per WIAA

2023 Girls Wrestling Special Qualifier Process

In an effort to maximize the opportunity to have as many complete brackets at the 2023 Girls Individual Wrestling Tournament as possible, we will implement a one-year special qualifier process to fill empty lines within the state tournament brackets for the 2022-23 season.

Automatic qualifying process is outlined in the 2022-23 Tournament Procedures for Wrestling (p. 44) as the first place finisher at each assigned Sectional qualifies for state.

In the event that a Sectional Tournament does not have a competitor entered or a qualifier (at that weight class) for the state tournament, the vacant qualifier spot will be allocated to the highest qualified wrestler, as defined below, from the remaining Sectionals who did not qualify automatically in that weight class.

The "highest qualified" wrestler will be determined by using Trackwrestling and the state seeding criteria.  Trackwrestling will produce a rank order of wrestlers per weight class who did not automatically qualify as a Sectional Champion.  The only athletes that can eligible to be considered for this state tournament qualification process are those who have registered at a weight class in which a sectional(s) did not have a competitor at that weight class. The Trackwrestling seeding for these vacant brackets is final, and there is no appeal process.

Once the vacant weight classes for the state tournament have been filled using the process outlined above, each weight class will be seeded as outlined in the 2022-23 Tournament Procedures (p. 54)
