Title: Regionals/Sectionals/State MegaPost
Post by: Lunatic Fringe on January 31, 2021, 03:19:17 PM
Observations:
Reedsburg really impressed and upset Waunakee to win Regionals.
Beaver Dam really impressed finishing 2nd in regionals behind Stoughton
Did Portage run into quarantining issues? Surprised to see only 4 athletes
Fort & Milton got things sorted out at regionals finishing in front of tough Janesville squads and Elkhorn
Notable Returners Missing Royce Nilo (Milton) Beckett (Portage) Who am I missing?

Reedsburg did not avenge a dual loss to Baraboo, but they did look good and have had remarkable numbers and depth for about the 3rd year in a row.

I should have double checked before I posted that, my memory failed me.  You were right gundyboo.   Reedsburg won 37-35

Sectionals Observations:
Once again the conference flexed its muscle showing why it's one of the toughest in the state.
Waunakee showed up with a chip on their shoulder after finishing behind Reedsburg last week and qualified for team state.
The talk around Sinclair & Sarbacker is justified.  Messenbrink & Showalter were taken for a run.

I think Stoughton will beat Kaukauna in the Team State Finals. Should be a very good battle though...

Well Stoughton couldn't quite pull off the 4peat.

However, I'm not sure what's more impressive.  Kaukauna beating Stoughton or Stoughton making the Team State Finals for 7 straight years.

Also, kudos to Waunakee for making the State Semifinals.

Stoughton has had an impressive run for sure. Do they have some solid replacements for next season with some of there key losses after this year?  Will they make it 8 yrs in a row?

It will be tough. They should have 5 guys who have a great chance at being a state place winner or better.  Plus they normally have 1-3 freshman come in and be successful immediately.   Any team that is going to have 6+ State Qualifiers is in the running to be successful at the team state tournament.

Returning Finalists: Nicolar Rivera, Brooks Empey
Returning Placewinners: Sarbacker
Returning Qualifier: Trenton Dow
Very Good: Chance Suddeth

Nice breakdown as I didnt realize they have 6 solids wrestlers returning. I'm going to start looking at all the other schools to see if any other teams can challenge them.

I think this coming year Milton may have a chance to give Stoughton a run for their money. They have almost there whole lineup back with 2 wrestlers (Nilo & Schliem) that weren't in the lineup last year.  They do lose J. Sanchez but getting Royce (SQ last season) and Schliem (transfer) could be some nice points for them.

Returning State Placers: Aeoden Sinclair (3rd) and Riley Nilo (4th)
Very Good. Royce  Nilo (former SQ, didn't wrestle this past season), Michael Schliem( Sat out LY), Kade DeSormeou (SQ last year), Hunter Kieliszewski (SQ last year), Matt Haldiman
Solid wrestler Luke Harms

Somehow Milton has become underdogs.  Despite finishing 2nd in the Badger in 2020 and 5th at the super sectional this year behind Stoughton, Waunakee, Arrowhead and Mukwonago.

I could easily see them putting 5+ through to the individual state tournament, which always puts you in good position as a team as well.
