The Pre-Seeds (auto seeds) have been released to the public. Coaches will have the opportunity to lobby for their wrestlers tomorrow and the final seeds will be released on Wednesday morning.
Remember, all auto seeds are computer generated and based solely on the criteria entered by coaches. There will likely be several changes to the pre-seeds.
Please follow/like the Northern Badger Wrestling Classic Facebook and Instagram pages to follow promotional posts and updated information leading into the tournament.
The final seeds have been posted on Trackwrestling.
I don't see Freedom's Patrick Moore in the line-up. He lost to Chase Matthias last week at 195 but wrestled him tough.
Looking forward to seeing some good action in the lighter weight divisions at the Badger.

What a ref show at 182. Incredibly poor officiating and use of power in a big match.
Actually a pretty good prediction overall. Kind of impressive!

Well ok...........
Since the can of worms is now opened let's just talk about a few things.
First, everyone is overwhelming told that we have a shortage of officials at evwry step of the way. Coaches and fans have been told this to an exhausting extent to the point it is almost beaten to death.
There is also a shortage of coaching but ......
So as a coach when you approach a ref with a question on the rules and get told by a ref your going to get kicked out, please refs have some thicker skin to answer rules questions!
When continually get told by refs to fill out the rankings so refs can get qualified to get to state but that same ref will not answer rules questions and threaten to remove coaches from the corner....well guess what your hot getting ranked.
Please refs, we understand your job is time consuming and very difficult but to be honest refs get paid a heck of alot more tha most coaches do and let's compare the hours from coach to ref.
So refs, please back off the poor me gimmick and let's get back to doing/providing the best for the kids.

Good points LittleGuy.
There were many times at this tournament, I saw the officials interject themselves into a match that could of, or did make a contributing factor to the outcome when they didn't need to. And don't you dare question their judgment, or ask for clarification, they might kick you out of the corner. I saw that happen a number of times also. Mind you, I don't know what some of these coaches said but it sure seemed like this happened quite a bit more than usual these past couple of days.
Secondly, I really think officials need to do a better job of understanding what a takedown is, or the NFHS/WIAA make it a clarification and point of emphasis. I know the word "control" can be subjective but it's pretty clear at the collegiate level, and it should be pretty clear at the high school level as well. Here are a couple of examples that I think should be to be addressed that I saw numerous times called differently at this tournament...
1. The Merkle/Okie choke takedown.
2. What defines supporting points as a wrestler goes out of bounds with what looks to be a takedown? (the 182 finals match)
3. A situation where a wrestler gets behind his opponent and either hook a leg or gets completely behind the hips on the mat but the opponent still has one of his legs grasped with his hands under his belly.
4. How long does control need to be held before it is a takedown? In college, it's basically instantaneous.
All in all, it was a pretty fun couple days of wrestling.
It is good to have open and respectful conversation on the debatable points on refereeing.. There should be some open forum on these topics for all coaches and refs so these can be cleared up for the state tournament series.
I know we all see highly debatable calls at the state tourney that get called different ways in different matches, and it's difficult for the refs and the coaches involved as it's a high intensity/pressure situation. Its nice to hear both points of view, but there needs to be more clarity for sure.
Great job to all the competitors, coaches, and refs the past couple days, there were a ton of great battles the past 2 days, great sportsmanship, and individual/team rivalries getting heated up for January and February action.

I wonder if there was some prior history between the coach and referee. I think the crowds reaction and coaches may have been built up over the calls made by that referee(and likely others) throughout the tournament.
Yes I agree that there needs to be some discussion between coaches and refs.
Some ground rules need to be set also.
First....both coach and refs need to be level headed when addressing each other no matter the history.
Second....there needs to be direction to answers for question, not I dont know and nothing else.
Third.....my personal peeve so maybe not a focal point. There needs to be a two sided discipline during dispute. Example.....if a coach is disputing a ruling [hopefully with proper language] the final answer should not be ejection for the coach. Refs also need to work through these disputes knowing the could have immediate discipline also.
Yes please close the gap on these communication gaps before state. Maybe in other parts of the state things are great but maybe others the communication is breaking down.
To answer a couple questions. Yes there is prior history.
It still comes down to the same thing. As coaches if we are told to come to the head table with questions the Official should at least listen to the question.
All I wanted was clarification on a takedown I thought we had. He asked if I was questioning his ability to ref. I said Yes! I asked if we could ask the other official what he had seen. I was told no need to do that. 1st penalty point.
2nd penalty point came from me asking why the second official is needed if he doesn't say anything.(MyBad) this resulting in the ejection.
There was also another call later in the match where he did ask the other official and they awarded 2 takedown on another close out of bounds scramble. My other coaches didn't dare ask about it for fear they would be ejected as well.
Clarification on takedowns needs to happen.
This official sure seems the need to interject himself in a lot of matches.
It was a great match no matter the outcome for each wrestler.

Before this get out of line, northern badger was run very very well if not great!
Full girls championship
Wrestle back to third
All this fit in in very close to the same time frame as years past with lesser teams and no girls divisions. Have to hand it to the staff making it all work.
Thank you northern badger staff, job well done!
I wasnt in your discussion coach, so I cannt comment, but what you say about asking the second refs for an opinion and very similar response was given to other coaches.
I understand coaches and refs are not going to agree but having good communication needs to happen. We ask coaches are asked to come to the table, sit in the corners, rank the refs and when we do these things and get I dont know, not my problem answers isnt flying real well in the open communication field.
There are some great refs that do communicate. It is usually just a few that cloud the days.
Thank you for refs that are working very well with communication and I hope both coaches and refs that maybe not doing this, please man up and start!
Being a former official I thought the officiating overall was pretty consistent, saw some poor calls but saw some really good calls as well(which won't get brought up on the forum LOL) That match was very odd from the start. I think it's tough as an official and a coach in these 2-day tourneys. You are reffing and coaching 2 straight days and in the finals, you have to be on your "A" game. Emotions are high. I really appreciated the way Kaufman(wrestler) handled the call, he kept wrestling hard and almost pulled it off. Im looking forward to the re match come tourney time.
