Anyone else waiting to see the results of Graff vs. Nathan Tomasello Round 1?
Connor's first match is vs. #2 Zach Rey.
Graff by 5.
According to the seeds (http://www.intermatwrestle.com/articles/14450), they didn't give Medbery a seed, but instead they did give Grant the last seed (#10). Conner just beat Grant 8-3 two weeks ago in the qualifying tourney.

I found that interesting as well. With Medbery already qualified for the US World Trials, facing Rey is a great opportunity and experience. He has nothing to lose. It will be interesting to see how things play out this summer for Medbery and Thielke with both eligible for an Olympic redshirt. Either way best of luck to them!
Lots of Minnesota Storm wrestlers. Wish Wisconsin could get something like that going.

That is what Mitch is hoping the RTC can turn into. Hopefully they can!
When do they start?
Graff loses in the semis 6-4 to Mitcheff. Medbery loses in the first round to Rey, 4-1.
Medbery beats Coon on criteria in the wrestlebacks - he now faces Dom Bradley.
Graff will face off against Sanders in the wrestlebacks.
Despite earlier reports of Nazar competing, I didn't see him listed in the brackets.
In the junior tournament, Christensen is in the semis; Lantz is alive in the wrestlebacks, Grahek is out.
I didn't spot any other Wisconsin boys.
Crone is also in wrestlebacks, he lost to retherford.
Our boy JT got the 4 seed. Looks like he's going to battling R Mango in the semis. Love those battles. Solid showing by all of our junior level guys and Connor thus far.
JT to the finals with a dominating 8-4 win over Ryan Mango! Will have winner of Hodge and Triggas in finals tonight.
Drew, he beat Hodges now has Spencer Mango tonight in the finals. I know this is all new to you
I forgot Greco has a different tournament set up. Glad we get to see Spenser and JT go at it for the first time. Also glad to see you jump on the bandwagon Brett.
So he didn't win it?
Why not show that on the bracket then? So strange.
Jena and Crone both win and place.

The winner of this tournament gets to challenge the #1 guy. Yes, it would be easier to understand if they just built the bracket sheet to show that but....we are dealing with the world of wrestling marketing. That's almost an oxymoron.

Mango, a two-time Olympian, will face 2013 World Team member Jesse Thielke in the finals at 59 kg/130 lbs.
Thielke earned back-to-back wins over 2013 World Team Trials runner-up Ryan Mango and veteran Jermaine Hodge to reach the finals.
"It's good to get back into Greco and to train," said Thielke, who wrestles collegiately for Wisconsin. "I've spent a lot of time communicating with my coaches back in Colorado Springs. I've had to do a lot of stuff on my own in Madison. You do what you have to do to make it work. I felt good. I was pushing him around out there.
"I am hungry. I want to win every single match, every single tournament I go into. I've had some setbacks in folkstyle, but I've made some leaps and bounds in my Greco-Roman. So, I push forward."
Ryan Christensen from Washington took third at 174. Is that the kid who red shirted this year?
Drew, I've always been on Jesse's Greco bandwagon. I noticed Barry is not in his corner

Darn autocorrect :)
I see that JT lost 5-0 in the wrestle-off with Spencer Mango. I must admit to being somewhat confused as to what is going on here. They have these trials using a mini-tournament approach where the winner gets to challenge an awaiting "champion." Then in a month or so they go out to NY/Madison and have yet another tournament to see who actually makes the US World Team? If so, then what's the point of this most recent tournament?
Nat - I believe this only occurs when the returning rep placed in the top 5 at the world championships. The US Open helps for seeding, especially for a guy like Jesse who hasn't competed in Greco for a while. This should give him a top seed for the trials.

USAW changed the selection process for the GR team this year. This was led by the GR Nat'l Coaching Staff with input from the GR coaches that are working with the top athletes. Part of the decision was cost savings as the USOC has cut back on funding the Greco, efforts based on the past few years World and Olympic performance. The Clubs also were hoping to save on expenses while at the same time not compromising the selection of the Team. We (I still consider myself part of USAW after 20 years!) needed to streamline the process but still make sure selection of the Team was not based on one match. Since there isn't near the depth in GR that there is in FS-nor are there many viable World/Olympic Team athletes involved with NCAA programs in GR (Jesse is the only one right now, maybe Coon) the selection process could be reformed.
Priority one: Protect proven performers-anyone that placed in the top 5 at the World Championships the previous year were moved directly to the finals. Mango and Bisek fit that category. Borroughs and Dlagnev are automatically in the finals in Madison with Freestyle.
Priority two: Make sure the World Team member was selected in a best of three format. The National Championship finals was the first match of the best of three at all weights.
On June 6 there will be a "Dual meet" in NY with the two individuals. If the National Champion wins the match he will be on the World Team. If the National Champion loses (like I am predicting that Jesse wins) then there will be a second match that evening (3rd overall) to determine the World Team member.
This now becomes a featured event which is expected to sell out (it is designed as an intimate venue of, I believe, around 1500 capacity). I know the plan is a broadcast of the event, either through the internet or working with NBC Sports. I don't have the details on this as I have been more involved with working with USAW on the Freestyle WTT and the broadcast of that event.
Hope this helps explain the what and why.

Overall pretty good job by all of the Badgers who entered !
Coach Hull
Thanks so much for that explanation. We are certainly spoiled on this forum getting info from such knowledgeable sources. So just to simplify it - in Jesse's case, the World Team Member at 59 kg in Greco will either be Jesse (if he beats Mango twice) or Spenser Mango... nobody else has a shot? And we will know that outcome on June 6th?
Thanks again for such a good explanation. Best of luck to Jesse and all the other Badgers wrestling at the Trials.
On Wisconsin!
Thanks for the awesome post Coach Hull!!! Makes everything a lot easier for the average Joe! Go BADGERS!
CLC Fan,
This matches between Jesse and Spenser on June 4 (not June 6 as I originally reported) will be the final matches in the Team selection process. The lowest Jesse could be is number 2 on the National Team ranking this coming year. Basically the Nationals for Greco WAS the World Team Trials, with the final match(s) of the trials held a month later at a different site.
Jesse will now get the benefit of support from the National Team for international competition and a monthly stipend through the National Championships-which will likely be held in December of 2015 instead of April 2016. This is because of a condensed schedule do to the Olympic qualification process established by UWW and the USA Team selection in April.
