Does anyone else look at this list and is blown away by the number of kids looking to transfer? I couldn't imagine trying to coach with a system like this.

Bet all the coaches are glad you all finally figured this out. They have to totally rethink on how they have to go about their business. Money now is a major factor in this new crazy world of college athletics.

Every new coach would like to "close the borders" and get the top talent in their state but that is not realistic. I wasn't talking about what every coach "would like to" do, but what a coach actually said. Bono said he'd close the borders, along with turning the program into a top 5 program that would compete for trophies and apparently somebody believed this as the UW hired him over all other applicants, who I believe included both Damian Hahn and Ben Askren. So whoever believed Bono's slick sales job made a ridiculously stupid decision. There is such a thing as accountability. It's even more stupid that UW extended Bono after he has overpromised and underdelivered. And I believe Bono is set to make over $2 million for swinging and missing on nearly every high end recruit from the state. Wisconsin has plenty of money to burn. Its not UW's lack of money which has plunged them into this mess, but their basic stupidity.

When you are part of a major college sports program and the flagship University in your state,
like UW Madison, you have fans/boosters/donators/alumni who want to see the top HS talent in the state stay home ("close the borders") and play where the fans can follow/watch them. All coaches in the department understand this! All coaches also know that getting the top HS talent will not necessarily happen each and every year. Bono just happened to say it out loud. Somehow you have to make a widely known and accepted practice in college athletics and turn it into a negative.

Why would we limit or restrict the ability of a coach that wants to make themselves available and put in time over the summer with their team? Clubs like Crass, AWA, Ringers and others are great for the sport but not every family has the resources to send their kids. Could someone help me understand the harm here especially if the workouts are optional?

Julian is currently in Puerto Rico competing in the 2024 U20 Eliminatorio Nacional Libre at the Coliseo Dr. Roque Nido Stella in Guayama, Puerto Rico

The event is the Puerto Rico World Team Trials of the Federacion de Luchas Asociadas de Puerto Rico, the governing body of wrestling on the island and U.S. territory.

Julian is competing in 70 kilogram freestyle (libre). Action starts on Saturday.

WIWrestling Main Forum / Re: Pairings

These pairings just don't make sense and really take the fun out of it.

D1 Sectional C goes from Green Bay and Luxembourg Casco to Port Washington but at least combines different conferences together.

D1 Sectional B- Regional 2 and Sectional H-Regional 2 are basically a repeat of the conference tournament. Might as well use the conference tournament to seed the regional. Regionals are killing the conference tournaments.

Obviously D1 sectional F is a joke. Those regionals will be over in 2 hours.

Would really like to see some actual thought put into these assignments for the benefit of wrestling in general rather than just the benefit of geography.

All regionals team champs and runner-ups should be re-seeded like every other sport does for team state qualification

This has been said already but i think you missed it.. and thats okay. PDC has an enrollment which would put them in D3, so they got moved up to D2.

This set up sets up a PDC vs Fennimore sectional ( two teams with title aspirations next year)
Freedom is happy LC is up to D1 but of course they now get Coleman. good competition to look forward to for sure.

I would like to see sectionals arrangements be improved upon for sure, using data to rank the teams and separating the top talent a little better, but I don't think people like my ideas yet.

PDC is in division 2 because their enrollment fell and they should have been in division 3 this year. So the competitive balance rules pushed them from division 3 to division 2.

Russo was a good get. I believe he committed to Oklahoma and then portal/decommitted and came to Wisconsin. He was a thick 215/220 guy and figured he could make 197 but 184 could be a huge stretch, possible though. Tough to get smaller as you age
