With so much focus on Barry Davis's departure, I hope things work out for Kyle and Trevor.
They have both been at the UW for over 10 years and have proven their dedication to Wisconsin Wrestling.
(And they have put up with all of us during that time, which should count for something!! ;D)
Both are very capable college coaches. If one or both moves on, I wish them well.
It sounds like Kyle plans to enter the US Open freestyle tournament this year. In his last tournament, Kyle joined Russ Hellickson, Andy Rein, and Lee Kemp as the only former Badgers to win the Pan American Games Championship.
Both represented the Badgers very well on the mat and coaching. Their positive presentation and outlook would be an asset to any program
Chances are they will go. Bono will want all new blood. JMO: Strong opinion: More pieces to the puzzle. National Champ and a couple recruits will follow CB. Badger ON!

Seth Gross is listed as a junior on their website roster, he can't transfer since he's already transferred once. Now if he graduates and enters a graduate program, he may be able to transfer but we all saw what happened with Downey's plan for that this year.
Gross would be great but probably not realistic. More interested in Connor Brown at 125, Martin Mueller 184, and some of their recruits. They have been rumored to be following him.
Sammie Henson has proven himself as a great assistant ,as a head coach not so much. Would love to see him manning the lightweights in the new regime.

Maybe Tony Ramos wants back into the region (and to coach against Iowa). He is from Illinois.
Maybe if Ramos came to Madison, Barnett would attend Madison instead of UNC?
Kyle and Trevor are awesome people and should be just fine on whatever path the future takes them.
Didn't Graff win Pan American Championship same year as Kyle? He used to wrestle for the Badgers.

Graff is down at VA Tech at their training center.
I saw that Kyle Ruschell will wrestle at the Bill Farrell.

Ruschell is probably favored to win
I think he and Graff both took second.
Graff is a sure bet to make the finals of every tournament he wrestles in. He is then a sure bet to lose. I love watching all of his matches until the final.
It's a disturbing trend. Cripes he's so fun to watch. Just smooth as silk, thinks quickly, etc. Then the finals come. I sooo wanted him toe beat Ramos sooo many times. GRRR!
Reffing was odd in that match two. Not sure why Graff was penalized with 1 point and then put on a shot clock for additional point? He was up 2-0 and attacking, then all the sudden it was 2-2. Ruschell looked great even though he lost in the finals. Both are so fun to watch. It seems like Wisconsin had a lot of great wrestlers but failed to retain them after graduation. Timmy McCall improved a lot over the years and he is also fun to watch. Schools that are in the top 4 such as Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan...etc. retained all of their athletes and are capable of providing them with the opportunities after graduation.
Looks like that day will come. If Gross follows Bono, and has success it will start that ball rolling.
FYI- John Giura won the Pan Ams in 1986, as well as gaining silver and bronze in other years.

Somebody with excellent historical knowledge like yourself needs to help update the Wisconsin Wrestling Record Book. Page 21 is incorrect !

Has anyone heard anything on assistant coaches?
Not today
How about today?
How about now? ;D
Not yet
Can you keep us posted when it does go down?
Rumor has it that an Iowa guy is on his way.
RT....
I guess I will be nice and share what I know. RT and McDonough were both in town yesterday meeting with Bono. Early indication is that McD is the front runner. Either way the changes and additions to the program are exciting to see.

Sorry, stupid question, who is RT? I know the Ryan Taylor RT but is there a Iowa RT?

McDonough was my guess. He would be a good addition to help out our lightweights.

LOVED RT as a Badger. He had the most tenacity of any wrestler I've seen since I've followed the Badgers! Could Reopen the St Paris pipeline. Can he recruit?
McDonough has more pedigree, but I'd love to see Ryan Taylor coaching at Wisconsin. Can he still wrestle with kids? That has to be a factor for sure.

Ryan has no problem wrestling in the room. He is considering competing again. Ryan would be a great addition.....I am fairly confident that he will be involved with UW wrestling in some capacity.
RT would be huge help. Has his RT Elite room rolling.
If we got 1 of them I would hope we could keep one of Ruschell/Brandvold. I wonder who else who has applied who would be better...
Both would be appear to be good candidates. Great to hear Taylor is feeling healthy again.
Taylor could help keep a connection with St Paris Graham. McDonough had great results in college and would likely be a bigger draw to top athletes in terms of a training partner.

So it wasn't a career ending injury? That's great news if he can compete again.

Ruschell and Brandvold are out of the picture. Ruschell has applied for the SDSU and West Virginia jobs. I think he could also be a great addition to Escobedo's staff at IU.
New Head Coach means new assistants. Nothing against Brandvold and Ruschell as they are good coaches, but it was time for a change, within the entire program.
Let them go. If they are not happy or not what the new staff is looking for then it's better for both that they find the right fit somewhere else. IMO Matt McDonough will be a great addition to the staff.

In addition to Kyle and Trevor, who else has reportedly interviewed?
Need a big guy coach yet, not? Maybe Brandvold stays on?
What a great hire. I know Matt has done some amazing things both on and off the mat and can't wait for him to bring his talents to Madison. As far as Head's comment about Trevor staying on staff, I think that would be a great addition. What about a guy like Kyven Gadson? Cyclone Wrestling Club guy, ties to both Bono and Reader. Just a thought. Another NCAA Champ on staff wouldn't hurt
While we're on the coaching dream team boat let's shoot for Daniel Cormier! That UFC career has to be coming to a close soon. He'll need some employment! :)
