i can't understand how the WIAA can keep sending Elkhorn all the way up to the Stoughton Regionals when theres one in there own back yard,  while they keep sending Milton and  the Janesville schools all the way down to Wilmot witch happens to be only 26 miles for Elkhorn, yet close to a 60 miles hike for Milton and Janesville fans to drive,...as it is, it's a 53 mile hike from Elkhorn to Stoughton, thats close to 30 more miles to wrestle...makes no sense at all ...maybe they can high five each other as there busses pass going in the wrong directions... :)...I'm sure in the far northern parts there is also this problem, but it's a heck of a lot more densed up that way also where towns can be far and in between...

I think this is an excellent observation as it really doesn't make sense from a logistics standpoint.  Having said that, Milton is better off going to Wilmot this year as they don't have to worry about Stoughton or Elkhorn until the team Sectional dual.  Stoughton & Elkhorn I believe will be in a dog fight to win their regional.

Maggie not really sure why you think its a problem,it happens all over the state not just to Milton and elkhorn.we have Tomah, holmen,Lax Logan and Lax central coming to Baraboo for regionals then to middleton next week for sectionals.90 mile trip to Baraboo for holmen and the lax schools and Baraboo has made many trips up north too.If more schools in the regional were willing to host, then the same teams wouldn't always seem to be traveling all the time.
you can run but you cannot hide.

juveyhall

Yep...happens all over the state.  Still doesn't make it right!  Common sense will prevail.  With the WIAA we just don't know when that will be.

boowrestle

Maggie,so they should put Milton, stoughton and elkhorn in the same regional? Then all we would hear is oh our regional is too tough.Be happy that you are not in same regional with Stoughton at least this way you may get a chance to beat them in a dual meet to go to team state, instead of having to try and beat them in the regional tourney.jmo would not happen.Good luck to all the Badger conference wrestlers this weekend !!!!

I could tell you maggie, why the WIAA does that. But then I would have to....

Well you know !

I think there needs to be some travel, otherwise a lot of the regionals are just going to be a repeat of the conference tournament.  Many regionals already are.

maggie

ya, i simply believe it could be done better and who cares who meets who in regionals, your going to meet them sometimes if it was meant to be regardless, traveling would not be an issue of they had less numbers of Regionals and only 2 came out of each one, as it is now, it's all watered down as far as i am concerned...why be happy not to be in that regionals with Stoughton? I for one will be glad to see them go at it, anytime or place, however, a little more time for kids to heal up never hurts either... ;)...1iota, you just better hope that the thundering herd is well prepared come Sat., because if they'er not, and as good as they have wrestled this yr.,  it could get real ugly in a hurry, Stoughton has a knack of wrestling there best this time of the yr. and I for one would love seeing Milton in that Regional...and NO Boo, milton should trade places with them and head up the interstate 15 minutes and Elkhorn could do the same the other way...Problem solved...see how easy that was... ;D

I agree that Elkhorn is going to have to be at their best on Saturday, but I do believe they are the most underrated team in the State.  Other than one weight class, they really don't have an easy out.  On the other hand, if Stoughton wins it will create a dual between Stoughton & Milton for the right to go to Team State.  This certainly in my opinion creates a more exciting match & certainly a more electric atmosphere then had these rivals met in the regional format.

tell me WOODY.....i understand your thinking 1Iota.....

I agree that Elkhorn may have been the most underrated team in the state all year, but they seem to have it correct now at #6 - I think that is probably about right. Hudson has earned theirs at #5 as well as Rapids @ #4.   If Elkhorn does get by Stoughton Saturday (I hope they don't), I think they will give Milton a pretty good run also (because of some matchups favoring Elkhorn).

I know it was said other places, but kind of a bummer that you will have two of the top 6 teams wash out before state, but whoever makes it through I'm thinking they are going to be standing across from Special K or the old Evil Empire for the finals.

Our bus used to pass through Richland Center on the way home from sectionals. One year, the nice cops there gave us a super nice official escort(lights a whirlin') not knowing we weren't their home team.   :) We pulled over at first, but they motioned us to roll. We beeped and waved as we left town. Nice people down in Richland Center. :) :) Pretty country, too.
If I agreed with you we'd both be wrong.

maggie

I agree, Elkhorn has it going on, there youth program has came a long way in the last 10 yrs, I do know that, good luck to them...
