I got some M.S. students to volunteer to pick up litter from a drainage ditch that runs through school property. The ditch leads directly to Pine Creek, and then into the Mississippi. We picked up over 26 industrial-sized garbage bags full. That was in only 1 1/2 hrs! It's quite apparent that people in town are coming to the ditch and dumping their stuff especially lawn/garden waste, old plant pots and potting trays. The number of plastic bags being washed down that drainage into the river is staggering. I see why some cities are now banning them.
