Rutgers Wrestling Tabbed No. 12 in USA Today/ NWCA Coaches Poll
Five wrestlers ranked by Intermat

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Jan. 20, 2016) – Rutgers wrestling is No. 12 this week in the USA Today/NWCA Division I Coaches Poll, released Tuesday. The Scarlet Knights (11-3, 2-2 Big Ten) host Wisconsin (1-4, 0-3) on Friday night at the Rutgers Athletic Center in the program's first Blackout match.

Five Scarlet Knights are ranked by Intermat entering the weekend following a 17-16 loss at Minnesota. Redshirt sophomore Anthony Ashnault (South Plainfield, N.J.) slid to No. 6 at 141 pounds after suffering his first dual loss of the year against Minnesota's No. 12 Tommy Thorn. Ashnault has a team-best 18-2 record this season.

Redshirt senior Anthony Perrotti (Roseland, N.J.) improved to No. 9 at 165 pounds according to Intermat, matching his highest ranking of the year by the publication. Perrotti (14-2) has won his last two matches.

Also rising in the rankings was Billy Smith (Wantage, N.J.) at heavyweight. Smith (17-5) jumped to No. 13 after earning his highest ranked win of the year against No. 7 Michael Kroells (Minnesota), 2-1, in tiebreakers. Smith has won three-straight.

Anthony Giraldo (Guttenberg, N.J.) and Richie Lewis (Toms River, N.J.) stayed put at 133 and 157 pounds, respectively. Giraldo retained his No. 18 ranking following a decision, while Lewis was ranked No. 15 after not competing against Minnesota.

The weekly rankings set up critical individual matchups ahead of Friday's dual against the Badgers. Giraldo will square off with No. 7 Ryan Taylor (1-2) and Perrotti will wrestle No. 3 Isaac Jordan (15-0).

Friday's match against Wisconsin is RU's third at the RAC this season and will stream live on BTN Plus. The Scarlet Knights are unbeaten at home in 2015-16 and look to make it seven consecutive home wins dating back to last season.
