Medals for regionals

Curious as to why there would be 1st, 2nd & 3rd place medals in D2 & D3, but only 1st & 2nd in D1?
Unless that was a typo?

Isn't that who goes to states in the respective divisions?

That's pretty ridiculous logic - seeing how (as has been argued here many times before) the 3rd place finisher could well be the 2nd best wrestler in his class.

Just one more complication of the different processes for different divisions.  Personally, I think the fact that the WIAA does this could be used to justify giving medals at Regionals...  i.e., why should differences among the various sports even be considered relevant to Regional medals, when the current practice has inherent inconsistencies?
