Bayport always had a great K-8 tourney....why the change to k-5?
Big house"As part of my mental toughness routine ... I read the forum and try NOT to believe everything on here."

It's very strenuous!

Opinions are not facts. Because two people differ in opinions doesn't make one of them wrong.

Thanks for the message.  We opted for a K-5 Tournament this year for a number of reasons including consideration for our volunteers.

The Bay Port Wrestling Club runs 4 large tournaments per year, each requiring more than 200 volunteers/800 Volunteer Hours.

The Youth Tournament was always the Sunday following the Saturday of our JV/MS Tournament, requiring a full (Friday Night, Saturday, Sunday) weekend commitment for our volunteers.

We have opted to run the K-5 event on Saturday afternoon, following the JV/MS event to take advantage of the gym setup and to provide our volunteer wrestling families with a 1-day commitment.

We are always interested in feedback on our tournaments and ways to improve our events for the wrestlers and their families.  As such we have moved to all on-line registration, pre-bracketing, weight-checks, more mats, and better awards, all based on recommendations from those attending our events.

Looking forward to a great tournament at Bay Port on Saturday Afternoon!

A huge THANK YOU to the 371 Wrestlers and their families who turned out for the Bay Port SUNSET SHOWDOWN yesterday.  The very large field of wrestlers in 3 Divisions (K-1st, 2nd-3rd, 4th-5th) made for some great competition!

Just a quick note to explain the 30 minute delay in start-time yesterday.

One of our objectives this year was to ensure wrestlers were assigned to one mat all day, and to ensure the bout number sequence was simple to understand, and easy to track both at the mat and on our large screen screen displays.  Our new number schemes created some issues during the bracketing processes, and the subsequent delay.

The issue was fully resolved, and all matches (371 Wrestlers, 3 Rounds, 548 Bouts, 13 Mats) were wrestled in 2 hours, 45 minutes.

We hope you found the Tournament to be a positive experience and look forward to having you back next year.  In the meantime, please forward any comments or suggestions for improvements.

Best of luck to all wrestlers for continued success this season, we will look forward to seeing you at the WWF KIDS FOLKSTYLE QUALIFIER at Bay Port High School on March 19th.
