Penn State remains No. 1 after 2-0 weekend; Stanford moves into Top 25 after weekend win over Maryland
For the second straight week, Penn State garnered nine of 10 possible first-place votes to maintain the top spot in the USA Today/NWCA/AWN Division I Coaches Poll.
The Nittany Lions went 2-0 on the road in weekend competition, beating then-No. 25 Rider 34-8 and rival Lehigh 22-12.
Second-ranked Minnesota and fourth-ranked Iowa were idle in dual competition, while third-ranked Oklahoma State opened up with a home victory over Bucknell. Fifth-ranked Oklahoma improved to 4-0 after two Sunday wins. The Sooners beat Hofstra and Bucknell.
Cornell opens up its dual slate this week against Binghamton. Illinois started 3-0 with wins at Chicago area high schools against Arizona State, SIU-Edwardsville and Division II Ouachita Baptist.
No. 8 Virginia Tech improved to 7-0 on the young season. The Hokies beat No. 9 Edinboro 27-14 on Saturday before beating American 30-9 and Division III Manchester 59-0. Virginia Tech coach Kevin Dresser won his 100th dual as the Hokies' head coach on Sunday.
Ninth-ranked Ohio State beat the No. 1 team in Division II, Notre Dame College, 29-11. Missouri moved into the top 10 after Edinboro slid to No. 12 in this week's rankings.
Oregon State slid two spots after losing to then-No. 20 Michigan 20-12 in Ann Arbor, Mich., on Sunday. Lehigh beat No. 15 Bloomsburg, causing the Huskies to slide six spots down to No. 21.
Purdue moved into the Top 20 after opening up its 100th season of collegiate wrestling by defeating Duke 27-7.
Stanford beat then No. 22 Maryland 17-16 on criteria on Sunday. The Cardinal moved into the Top 25 for the first time this season. Head coach Jason Borrelli will head back to Michigan to take on his father Tom's team, Central Michigan, on Monday, Nov. 25.
