Let's hear your Dark Horse predictions! Who's lying in the weeds ready to upset/disrupt the rankings at Regionals/Sectionals?

Let's hear your Dark Horse predictions! Who's lying in the weeds ready to upset/disrupt the rankings at Regionals/Sectionals?
+100,000
Mauricio Cardoso- West Allis Central 138.
In my opinion, not a dark horse because he has some very good credentials but he is still unranked. He was one match from placing at the state tournament last year at 138, and I believe he only has 2 or 3 loses this season. I think he is going to do some damage here come tournament time.
Nate Roth- Jefferson 132
Pretty solid kid has not been ranked all year
Ryan McDevil - Hudson 152
Undefeated in 2016!

Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game
D3 Schlough Boyceville 138
I'm liking a few guys from that lineup in Point. Roth has been wrestling well but his lingering injuries scare me. I really like Engle to wrestle deep at the tourney.

Word on the street is Roth doesn't practice that much. Going to be tough to make a run if he isn't working on getting better.
Brandon Daniels Verona
Secretariat
Waldofski 160 lb. freshman from Barron
His weight class is stacked at Regionals and Sectionals, but he has the ability to make some big noise.
I'm going to go with the 103 lbr's from Pound Wis....do they have a team?...if so, he must be tough as nails, being so small and growing up in that Neck Of the wood! :)
Interesting Paul Harvey... :o
I like Jonny Benitez- Amery. Probably been practicing with Hunter Marko all year...heard he took some time off last year. But I think was a 2 time state entrant as a freshman and sophomore. Might be one of the quickest wrestlers I've seen from the feet.

Ian Laatsch 126, he has a couple of close losses to some top tear wrestlers and he only a freshman. But if he gets focused he has the athleticism to compete with anyone at 126.
I love watching this kid wrestle
Subhan Umar 145 from Racine Horlick. 39-0. Not ranked until 2/3 rankings

I've been big on him since before Badger! Secondly, I'm not talking finish on podium dark horse. I'm talking in the current rankings I feel he is the guy to beat for D3.

For the die hards he isnt a dark horse, just a plain horse!!!!!!!!
Good choice fish, a name to remember for the next 3 1/2 years
I will take Sawyer Massie from Hudson.
While most think a guy that has made state a few times shouldnt be a dark horse but man this kid is the best kid that hasnt placed in high school yet.
sorry hudson coaches but being ranked 1 he isnt hiding.
Just a solid pick to win without ever placing that I know of!
I think hm at 195 Cullen Bauer-Trottier from Port Washington could do some damage. The kid knows how to keep matches close and win at the end. Plus he placed high at Cheesehead.

Agreed.
I've been out of state a couple years so haven't been able to watch live but keep up as much as possible. Trevor Troxel is ranked now but probably no where on the radar before the season. Had some tough injuries in previous years and having a great season! Pulling for him to make a deep run.

Didn't he play basketball last season? I know he made the state tournament his sophomore year, not sure about last year. I hope he makes a deep run in these next couple weeks.

Gave Trent Leon a run losing 6-4 today in finals after tech falling Jacob Barnett 22-7 in semis
Nathan Lichtfuss Hortonville 138.... Beat Zach Lee in conference final
I have to chuckle at these threads. I wonder if the kids being mentioned all like having a target painted on their backs. They may be comfortable living below the radar?
Then again, some may like the recognition.
Then maybe the thread should be "Who is wrestling really well right now?"
Ramjet- I'm not sure why you feel the title of the thread is so threatening.
When you have an answer for his first foolish comment he has to try to find something else to whine about. I didn't hear any names in his posts?
With all that empathy and compassion he shows you may believe he leans a little to the left.
I just think the term Dark Horse is nondescript it has the connotation the wrestler does not have chance. But somehow overcomes insurmountable odds to win against a superior talented opponent. Is this how you guys lol at those wrestlers? See I everyone has great chance to win if they work hard and believe in that hard work. Let's not try and make this political just like saying Rhinehart was a Darkhorse last year I bet he didn't think so nor did his coach. Just a weird way to post accomplishments of these wrestlers that's all.
Terms like "upset" and "Darkhorse" do not really tell the true story in my opinion. These are terms for parents and fans the wrestlers do not feel that way. Well at least the ones I talk too.
Flame away boys.........🔥

Yes, I have to admit that I considered that, too. That's why I didn't make any bold predictions. Just wanted to give our young guy a little respect. He is a hard-working kid who respects his opponents and welcomes a challenge. He sets his goals high and knows that wrestling the top kids will help him get better in the long run. Good attitude for a freshman, IMO. Some kids might not like to be in the spotlight, though.
First of all, in no way does "dark horse" mean "not having a chance"(as you think it does). You are right in that it is not a term a participant would use to describe themselves, but it is perfectly appropriate to use it in this sense. As you said, it is for fans. Which is what 99% of this forum is.

I am not offended just strikes me like I said. No problem. I will say this all the wrestlers mentioned are working hard towards some nice accomplishments I wish them the best in thier quest.

Ok, I'll pick Random Lake to win D3. Actually they don't have a chance but I wanna make sure I have a "true dark horse".
Boscobel 4 individual champs.

Stephen Buchanan (Neillsville-Greenwood-Loyal) 36-6, Fr.

I'm going with my Cashton wrestlers as individual dark horses. Only one qualified for state last year. I'm hoping for more.
I'm thinking that freshman Aaron Bahr of West Salem/Bangor may come through the 120 lb field. I know he's been ranked, but a freshman at 120 has got to be a darkhorse, in light of a few losses on his record.
