Wisconsin edged at Illinois, 18-17
Hamiti among five Badgers to win bouts

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — No. 11 Wisconsin lost on the road to No. 28 Illinois, 18-17, in a tight dual at the State Farm Center that saw four lead changes.

Garrett Model opened up scoring for the Badgers at 157 pounds with a 5-1 decision over Illinois' Anthony Federico. Teammate Dean Hamiti then pushed the Badgers lead to 8-0 thanks to a 15-0 tech fall over Danny Braunagel, turning his opponent for several nearfall points in the dominant victory.

Illinois climbed back into the dual with wins at 174, 184 and 197 pounds before Trent Hillger earned a 3-0 decision over Matt Wroblewski in the heavyweight match to retake the lead for the Badgers, 11-9.

Eric Barnett kept Wisconsin in the lead with a 7-1 decision to make it 14-9 on the team scoreboard. Illinois won the 133 and 141 bouts, including a pin to re-take the lead 18-14. Wisconsin's Joseph Zargo capped the dual with a 9-7 decision win as he wrestled up a weight at 149 pounds, but it wasn't enough to put the Badgers ahead in team points.

Wisconsin travels to Michigan next Sunday, Jan. 15. The dual will be streamed live at 4 p.m. CT on B1G+.
