Title: Day 2
Post by: leg turk on March 17, 2017, 08:48:55 AM
Badgers tied for 12th.  Can they keep that spot or better it?  Hoping Crone can win some matches!

Surprised Minnesota is in 7th, they might drop a little after today.

Johnny will have a tough match against the 7 seed. Loss
Crone should beat Hammond. Win
I think TJ will win against Boro. Win
Jordan will have a close match against Walsh. Win
Christensen has Weatherspoon who is very inconsistent. Loss
Ritter has Geer of Boro. Win
Ricky has Cervantes. Win
Medbery has Tanner Hall who is a solid HWT. Win
6-2 are my predictions but feel like I am a little optimistic. probably more like 5 wins.

I hope they turn the heat up in there today, both literally and figuratively. Had to wear my winter coat in the arena yesterday.

I think 12th place is a great place to be after the slow start yesterday.  With our high end power I still think 10th place is possible.  Good thing the knight/purgolder isn't here anymore or he'd be knighting me for showing optimism :)!!!

Those 2 pins late by Ritter and Robertson really leaped us up on team scores.

All kidding aside, tough match.

First takedown Johny was in no danger, but then managed to give up his leg and the takedown.  I'm not sure what that was all about.  His single leg defense needs some work.

Long, athletic, solid on his feet similar to Crone. Going to be a great match to achieve a dream.

Agreed. I thought it should've been called earlier. Ref gave him an opportunity to move out of the position but Ricky just couldn't do it quick enough.

I saw Banister wrestle Theobold in Maryland.  Banister won in a tight match.  No doubt Crone can win if he keeps wrestling like he has been.  Theobold doesn't do anything special, just big and solid.

It was a pin. We looked at each other and said he was stuck and then it was called. Hammen is right, the ref gave him an opportunity to roll thru it but even if he tried, I think he would have lost position and given up the points for a TD so he was pretty much screwed either way.

Believe Imar dropped to a leg and basically pushed Zeke out of bounds before a 5 count, thought that should have been the first Imar stalling warning.

Zeke underestimated Imar's ride.  Hindsight he should have built a little ride time instead of giving the free point to start the second period.

Easier said than done, IMAR is a beast. Good effort by Jordan.  You gave yourself a chance in the 3rd against arguably one of the top 3 college wrestlers at any weight.  No shame in coming up just short.

It is a good year when you can get one finalist, but it would have been sweet to get two.
IMAR seemed to think that Jordan never opened up for the first two periods and the third
period turned into just one long IMAR ride.  It will be highly interesting to see if Jordan can come back
and get third now or not.  Crone left no doubt that he is the third best wrestler on the team, at least until
the stud Wick brother gets off his redshirt year.  Medbery could make this interesting with this rib injury situation.

I don't think Kasper could beat Snyder if he wrestled him 50 times.  He has no edge whatsoever.  Against the big boys he can crab ride them, wear them out.   Funny that Snyder outweighs Kasper by 7 pounds.

Medbery will have a hard time beating Snyder tomorrow night.   But I was impressed by how he handled Ty Walz.

I so much wanted Crone to win.     I think Theobold is just better than anybody thought.  Some guys show up in March.   None of Theobold's wins in the tourney were flukey.

Zeke has wrestled well every match.   Beating Massa would be a good career capper.
