Jordan with an upset.

Not a chance....AD just might pin Jordan.....way too much horse power.

I don't see a pin, but Semis were pure Domination by AD!

Then why didn't he get a pin in the quarters or semis?

First off  i said "might" secondly AD will be looking to put an exclamation point on this...can you say Hodge?

Anything can happen. ...thats why they wrestle....but I believe AD will dominate this match.

As much as I root for AD because he is from Wisconsin(and all kids who are from WI for that matter)  I will be pulling for Jordan in this, he wrestles for Wisconsin and although I don't know him personally, from the interviews I have seen of him he really seems like a GREAT young man!   AD may be the favorite but you never know what is going to happen.

Too bad either one of them have to lose, but how strange is it that AD goes for his third title against a Badger? Like both kids, but will be pulling for the one that represents Wisconsin. AD is favored, but so was Michigan State yesterday, anything can happen in seven minutes plus, looking forward to this battle.

I wish they weren't wrestling each other. Jordan needs to stay away effectively and hope to win 3-1. If Dieringer gets to his ties he's almost unstoppable.

Unlike you Wrestler6, most people are realists. I'm rooting for Isaac but I too think A.D. has too much horsepower and offense. A.D. will win it 8-3.

I think zeke keeps it close and puts himself in a position to win at the end. Prediction is ringer 5-4 ending in neutral. Hoping zeke gets the td and wins 6-5.

Of course Deiringer is a heavy favorite, if for no other reason than he has proven that he can do it multiple times over. That said, Zeke has taken on every challenger that has come his way this year and also proved his mettle. Personally, I would not be shocked if Zeke wins, but I am not counting on it. Two great, undefeated, wrestlers going at it for all of the marbles.

"AD will become the second WI native Hodge trophy winner (technically 3 trophies) not wrestling for the Badgers since Barry Davis took over the Badgers."

So that's basically what this comes down to, not the wrestlers involved, but one's viewpoint of Barry Davis. Got it.

And incredibly pathetic.  >:(

Doesn't come down to that but it's true. Should be noted that Konrad would have won it most years but got beat out by askren.

I would like to see AD get 3 titles.

I would like to see a Badger get a title, I would like it to be IJ, seems like a fine you man.

I think AD wins by 3 based on talent not because of who I want to win.

I'm not a huge fan of the way Isaac Jordan has wrestled cautiously in some of his big matches over the years but I think that style might work out well for him in this match. If he can slow down AD and control the pace of the match he could have a shot of pulling off the upset. I wouldn't be surprised to see a 1-1 OT match. Hoping Isaac can pull it off.

Jordan 3
Dieringer 1

This is going to be fun to watch but for Jordon to win has to keep this thing close that means winning on his feet. At this level "deep water" does NOT exist they are incredible athletes.

Talk about strong AD upper body strength is freaky. He has the edge here. IJ is patient and very good on his feet.

Realism says AD should win but my loyalty has to pick IJ. This is purely an emotional pick.

Retherford (Penn State) wins the Hodge. No question about it. The most dominant wrestler pound-for-pound in the country. His statistics back him up.

It's going to go to AD I think though, while I agree awards like this should be yearly they tend to look at body of work.  Especially if it is close.

I agree that Retherford was crazy good this year. It also is a one year award, not a career thing. However, a 3xer who only lost once in the NCAAs has to get that Hodge this year.

Pretty sure I read that one qualification is to be undefeated.....Zane is not undefeated.  I also think it said something about career accomplishements which three time NCAA champion would trump anything that Zane has done.

Zane ended the season 34-0 with bonus points in all NCAA tournament matches; full season was 15 falls, 8 techs, 7 majors. That's bonus points in 88.2% of matches. Stats according to trackwrestling and flowrestling for tournament and season, respectively.

Alex ended the season 33-0 with bonus points in 3 of 5 NCAA tournament matches; full season was 12 falls, 7 techs, 8 majors. That's bonus points in 81.8% of matches. Stats according to trackwrestling and flowrestling for tournament and season, respectively.

It's going to be close. Retherford has #2 and #3 of the criteria. They tie for #1. Alex has #4. Quality of competition is something that might go to Retherford. Pretty sure according to flo that he beat more ranked wrestlers this year, and Alex had only 2 wins against a returning AA's (Wilson of Stanford and Zeke), which is certainly out of his control. Retherford had a slightly tougher field w/ wins over Tsirtsis (2x returning AA), Sorensen (returning AA) and Evan Hendersen (2x returning AA). I would give the nod to Alex for #6 and #7, but no doubt there's an argument for Retherford there. That would have it as a tie in terms of the 7 criteria. It's going to be a close one - hope Alex gets it.

Perfect analysis!  I think Alex gets it because of the senior/sophomore scenario.

The Hodge Trophy has 7 criteria:

1. Record
2. Number of pins
3. Dominance
4. Past Credentials
5. Quality of Competition
6. Sportsmanship/Citizenship
7. Heart

Hi!
Where did you find these criteria? I don't see them anyplace with a simple search.
If number 4 is in fact 'Past Credentials' it may be a consideration that Zane was 5th as a freshman and Alex was 3rd as a frosh followed up with three championships. Zane defeated a guy in the finals (Sorenson) who had a defeat. Alex defeated undefeated Isaac Jordan. I believe Isaac Jordan is a tougher finals opponent than Sorenson.

Not to get excusey; but AD has had many people move out of his weight the past two years. So, the competition thing is compromised when you have a brutal guy like that.

I'm not going to get teary-eyed; but I think a guy like Zane can attract people to knock him off; where it's been obvious people avoid Alex as his past dictates a guy who is next-to-unstoppable at the NCAA level.
