College wrestling is heating up with two former South Lake County athletes claiming titles over the weekend.

Oklahoma's Andrew Howe (Cedar Lake/Hanover Central) won five matches to capture the 174-pound championship at the prestigious Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas. The redshirt senior beat Nebraska's Robert Kokesh 3-2 in the championship match.

In an earlier meet, he downed Oklahoma State's Chris Perry 4-2 in a battle of former national champions to help the Sooners rally from a 15-3 deficit to beat their state rival for the first time since 2008.

On Nov. 17, Howe beat Bucknell's Steve McPeek for his 100th collegiate victory. Most of them were recorded at Wisconsin, where Howe competed for three years before transferring.
