I want to thank the WWF for driving this and continuing to grow girls wrestling in Wisconsin. The lower weight classes looked to have good numbers some of the upper weight classes were less  but the effort is greatly appreciated.  This is good for Wisconsin wrestling.

The other thing I like is the tournament eligibility was age based so if an 8th grader was within the age limit they could wrestle this state tournament. I think it makes for strong argument for Jr High inclusion. That "grade" should not be the determining factor as much as age should be the criteria. I know some that do and one even was the State champ.

Congratulations to all the girls who competed this weekend.

From what I've been told one of the biggest holdbacks to having girls wrestling become an official WIAA offering is the lack of organization in the state of wisconsin.

The WWF has their own idea of a state tournament, the WWCA has their own idea of a state tournament, random schools call in and make their own proposals and there isn't public support from the reffing association.

We need a unified and organized approach to girls wrestling before the WIAA is ever going to sanction it.   The WWF, WWCA, reffing associations, conference's and high schools need to all be on the same page. Having two different state tournaments 1.5 months apart is comical.

Not really comical the gals get to compete. I agree unified approach is the best one. So who takes the lead on this?

This is good example of why the WIAA should use the same criteria for eligibility as the USA wrestling does.  Age not grade.

106 lb HS champion is an 8th grader. She would not be eligible under WIAA but as you can see she is the Champ and it appears she had pins in all matches except 1. Granted she works very very hard and has many matches under her belt but it just goes to show that grade eligibility is not all its cracked up to be.

I wonder if there were any other 8 grade champs in that Tournament?
