Title: 165
Post by: wrastle63 on May 17, 2016, 05:16:40 PM
Looks like Jordan will have to unseat a defending champ in IMar. Along with whoever PSU throws into the mix this weight class turned into a meatgrinder.

165 will be really good. No matter who Penn State throws out there, most of AAs will be from the Big Ten IMO.

Surprising nobody, IMar moving up after Dierenger is done..

Massa from Michigan is another tough one.  I think Jordan's title hopes are better than last year but his road to the finals will be tougher.

Gotta agree with that action. If he makes the finals, he has a very realistic shot; whereas, this year, AD seemed an insurmountable foe. Well, not "seemed"....WAS.

Is Mark hall the next "Can't Miss' 4x undefeated national Champ ???

I'm assuming Mark Hall will be red-shirting.  Hall would make the 165 lb weight class way deeper if he decides to forgo his red-shirt.  I'm interested to see what Bo Jordan does next year as well.  My assumption is if Bo moves to 174 lbs, then Myles Martin moves up to 184, or takes a red-shirt.

If Hall wrestles 165 and doesn't redshirt, he is the favorite IMO.

I like Zeke's chances against anyone left with eligibility that will be at his weight.

You can expect 165 to be stacked always; unless you have an AD type monster.

I like Zeke's chances. Heck, I like Zeke.

Mark Hall is a great high school wrestler, no question about it. But a "Can't Miss" in college we don't know. Especially from the standpoint of predicting how many National Championships he will win. If this forum has proven anything it is that predictions are meaningless. Only results count. We'll see how well he does over his college career but assuming or predicting his success at the college level is a recipe for disaster.

Settle down Francis.  We're fans on a wrestling forum making predictions is pretty much why we're here.  If Mark Hall doesn't meet his expectations it won't be because of the "recipe of disaster" predictions on the WI Wrestling forum.

Obviously nobody is a "can't miss".  Hall has built a resume where he is the closest thing to a "LeBron James" type of recruit in the wrestling world, IMO.  At the least, comparable to the hype of Cary Kolat coming out of HS....again IMO.

What makes Mark Hall though is who he already beaten . Most of the contenders including iMar are on that list > Granted some were 4 years ago and some were freestyle but he is the real deal. He will be tough .

I would still take Zeke at 165 this years because he has really fine tuned his offense , his attempt to takedown ratio has to be the highest in the country, he looks like he has stupid strong hands.

Every time someone comes on here and predicts a kid will be a four-time NCAA champ before the kid has even won one collegiate match, the poster will argue until blue in the face that this time it's different; this time the kid can't miss...until he does...and then the crickets chirp. We got the same stuff with JT (seems pretty silly in hind sight, doesn't it?). Folks just need to relax and let it happen.

I forgot who it was that said that about JT. Seems to have the reverse Midas effect.

Hopefully that same person didn't predict an Olympic gold.

It was our good friend Rocky that said JT would be a 4-timer. Come back Rock.

Why are you so concerned with what other people predict...how about you make your prediction, or don't say anything?!  Sheesh!

If he doesn't win 4, then I eat crow and life goes on.  If he does win 4, I'm a genius and a wiwrestling forum legend.  I can't lose.

DO you like it raw or well done, I will start preparing for you

the predictions are fun, keep doing it.  I bet plenty on this forum predicted that David Taylor would be a 4x NCAA finalist...and they were right!

I think Hall is going to redshirt this year. IMar going up, though Hall is competitive (I think he's beaten IMar in freestyle) may help his decision.

I predicted that and the Dake win. Okay, maybe I'm just having deja vu; but I still feel like I really did it; and that's the truth pthpthpth!

I predicted Dieringer would win four titles,
but was wrong on that.  Iowa kid beats him
in double overtime otherwise he does it.

Hall redshirts this year.
Hall has the best teammates in the
country with the best coach.
Yes, he has a shot at four.
Making varsity on his own team
might be as hard as winning the NCAA tournament.

Nice Lilly Tomlin reference! For some odd reason I said that exact same thing to my wife on Sunday night. Dang I'm old.

Alex D lost because Iowa had 2 seconds more riding time . That bites.

I'm one of maybe 5 people that saw all 4 of Mark Halls defeats . Plenty of  his victories, his dad would walk across a crowded room to shake hands with me , when Sanderson  turns up the aggression in him it will be scary .

I agree that Hall's aggressiveness needs to pick up a level to be dominate in college. He has the skills and experience to do well, that is for sure. Yeah, once he really becomes nasty, mean like Retherford he will do damage. That PSU team is scary across the board. Appears they may have a hold on the Big Ten for years to come.

You seen these 3 losses in KY, that's impressive if so.

"Hall started his seventh grade year at Davison Middle School where he played football but in the winter his family moved to Kentucky, where he wrestled for Ryel High School in Union, Ky.
In Kentucky, seventh and eighth graders are allowed to compete on varsity teams. Hall finished the year with a 42-3 record and was runner-up at the one class Kentucky state tournament at 119 pounds"

Not 100% but I believe Hall's loss in the state finals in Kentucky was to Jameel Bryant who won 2 NAIA titles for Lindsey Wilson.

Jimmy, pretty sure Jackson and Wasmund  were the only coach's at Keith Young when he lost to the Waverly Shell Rock kid in 7th grade , not all the coaches traveled . That year he also lost to Rossi Bruno at the Clash and Ben Whitford at the Cheese . Lost 2 years later to Murphy at the Cheese. Came dang close to losing at the Cheese again this year .

BigOil , I didn't see a Kentucky match's , only the MN 7th grade thru 12 .

I have been an all tournament weight judge at the Clash for 6 years but live in Oak Creek .

I have multiple friends on the Clash board that's how I got that gig . Go to Ironman for the last 6 years also .
