few years ago the Mineral Point sectional had these stats, it goes in cycle
They had 9 state champs and numerous runner ups

Bonduel has been dominating for the past several years... What was the last year that Mineral Point sectional was the dominant sectional? Mineral Point had their reign atop D3 for awhile... winning I think 4 consecutive team state titles (one came via Tie). Fennimore is in good position to win back to back titles... Not sure what they have coming up through the Junior high but they have the made the state finals 4 years in a row now with 2 titles.

Bonduel Sectional is a beast of a sectional ...... no doubt.

I suspect every State qualifier will tell you their sectional is tough and they should it's not an easy road anywhere.

PCA

2013
They had 9 state champs, 6 runner ups

2014
They had 9 state champs, 5 runner ups

PCA

These years Mineral Point, Lancaster, Iowa Grant, Riverdale, Westby, and Ithaca/ Weston all had great individuals.

PCA

Since 2010-2019
The mineral point sectional has had 52 champs and 44 runner ups
The Bonduel sectional has had 41 champs and 39 runner ups

If you'd like a picture of how strength of sectional has behaved over the years in D3, here is the Average Place at State metric.  The best possible APS a sectional could ever have is 2.  That would mean every 3 qualifiers coming out of a sectional took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, so that they averaged 2nd place.  The worst possible APS would be 9.5.  That would mean not a single qualifier from a sectional placed.

Last year, the Bonduel Sectional was - by this APS measure - the best-performing Sectional D3 had seen since 2007 - the beginning of the "modern era" of wrestlebacks to 3rd place at state.

That is not relevant because soon this will be Wrightstown vs Bonduel and seeing D3 is discriminated against with first round single elimination it's irrelevant.

LOL that's what happens when I am in hurry. Thanks for the correction.

How did you do this with the non-placers? What values did you assign to first round losers v those that won a match at state but didn't place v those that won sectionals but didn't win a match?

Non placers in D2 and D3 all take 9.5th place in this metric.  If there are 12 in the bracket but we don't place 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th, then for anyone who lost out, we average those places.  You could argue that we know that kid A won a match Thursday night and kid B lost Thursday night, but I'd argue that all we're really sure of is that they took somewhere between 7th and 12th place.  9.5th.
